I don't have one but need one. Thinking of just building one. It's a lot cheaper then buying one and I can make it fit me and what I want it to do.

I have a Park PCS-9 and I love it. I think I paid around $90-100 shipped from a seller on ebay.

My trainer in the garage works for 90% of the things I do!

I have heard that as a way to do it but I am looking at mass bike repairs hopefully (not mine - donations) so I am thinking the stand makes it easier.

That certainly makes a difference!  Before my trainer...I bought big plastic mountable clamp at Lowes and lined the inside of the clamp with felt.  Mounted it on my work bench and poof...I had a $7 bike repair stand!

Like this (only the ghetto version and $160 cheaper)!

I have one of these that I picked up last year at an REI garage sale cheap.  I replaced an older stand I had for years from Performance.  If you think you will be working on bikes anywhere outside of your garage, something like this is the way to go.  It folds compactly, but is sturdy.  I also have the tool tray and a truing stand that mounts on it.  The truing stand was picked cheap at a flea market, and isn't as useful as my normal truing stand, but for a quick check it works OK. Not really better than just eyeballing the wheel on the bike using the brakes as a guide though, so I wouldn't recommend it for the most part.
