Hi all,

Been training for a few months but new to posting.  I've been following the C25k program and was really enjoying it. However, 2 nights ago, I started running and felt a pain right below both knees, about 2-3 inches to the inside of center.  I thought it would work itself out and finished the workout but still had the pain each time I ran (no problem on the walking intervals). Iced and Ibuprofened and no problems next day .... until I tried to run. Same thing happened.

I'm so clueless about running... is this a common issue with runners?  If it keeps happening, where do I turn for help? Regular doc, foot doc, sports doc?  I really started loving the running and want to get the pain resolved so I can get moving again.

Thanks a bunch!

Are you in the right shoe for you, ie, have you gone to a REAL running store (NOT Footlocker or Sports Authority) and gotten fitted for shoes? Are your shoes old and need to be replaced? (generally good for 300-500 miles, depending on your size and any other gait issues). I'd say that it's unlikely that you've injured yourself in BOTH knees in exactly the same place at the same time. You could be trying to go too hard or too fast (or doing too much too soon) and your muscles haven't adapted yet. Could be a lot of different things. But if you have not yet gotten fitted for shoes, do that first and see if that makes a difference.

I agree with wurkit gurl.  Sounds to me like your shoes are worn out.

My 2 cents: maybe too much too soon. If the shoes aren't the issue I'd say that you are moving too much too soon for your body. I have issues with that too. I have to give myself an extra few weeks even on a C25K program. Good luck!

Wanted to share the follow-up to my orginal post. Followed the advice of several posters (thank you!) and went to a running store in Seattle (Super Jock and Jill). Had an AMAZING experince with the service.  They put me in a bunch of different shoes and had me run in them. Finally found a pair that just felt absolutely "right" on my foot. Came home and did my best run workout yet with NO pain.  I kept thinking I'd need an heavy motion control shoe because I'm an Athena but turned out I didn't need that much shoe (also, I was not an overpronator as I'd previoulsy thought).

Anywhooo.... I ended up with a Saucony men's shoe and can't thank you all enough for suggesting I go to the running experts to get in the right shoe.
