I have a road bike and forerunner 305.  I'm looking at getting clip on aero bars, but that doesn't leave room for my forerunner.  The mount doesn't appear to be something that could/would naturally mount on the neck.  Or am I overlooking something.

You need the Profile Design UCMxl (the longer one) which provides a mount perpendicular to the aerobars. I have mine mounted inside my aerobars, and still have plenty of room for my aerobottle.

I have a similar set up on my road bike...clip on aerobars, Garmin 305...but add a cateye and aerobottle on my end.

The image that TheBear posted is what I use for my cateye (I don't like the cadence accessories on the Garmin). I use a ZipTie to secure the Garmin quick release base onto the top of the stem of my bike. It does the trick for me. If you need a picture, I can take one when I get home tonight.

I might be missing something....but I just wear the 305 on my wrist.  Although I rarely use it on the bike because I prefer the cyclometer with cadence and rear wheel mount.  But I'll occasionally wear the Garmin on a new route.

I use the same mount that bear displayed. works great and it is out of the way.

i'm not bad arse enough yet to use an aerobottle, though...

I have mine mounted on the stem, right over the cap using the supplied zip ties and i crossed them to prevent it from moving all around. Works fine for me, the LBS didn't have the longer nub to mount it on, so this band-aid fix has worked since sept. Just look down and its right there.

I had the profile UCM and thought it was awesome. One day it started getting loose and I could no longer crank it down (the threads were slipping). I don't know what it happened.

In any event, I tried it sideways on my stem. Didn't mind it but would much prefer to read it straight so I went the tubing/zip tie route:

It's basically a piece of black PVC pipe with 2 zip ties connecting it to the aerobars. One holds it onto the aerobar, the second hold it around teh pad so it can't slide backwards. Good position for me and out of the way of the aerodrink (not in pic)

A picture of how you attached the mount to the stem (without the 305 on it) would be very helpful.  I figured I could figure something out via trial and error, but a pic would save time and ZipTies.

I have the 305...And mounted it with a universal mount like the bear shows. So mount that baby on the aero's, then use the 305's quick releases mount ..and pop it on there. Easy Peesy!
