Subject: Blisters/Calluses...Please Help!!
I'm currently training for my first HIM, and have really been upping my running miles.  The training is going great, but my big toes both have huge yellow calluses on them, and after every run, long or short, they feel like they have new blisters forming underneath the calluses. (I know this is gross...sorry!!)  They also hurt while I am running, not enough to make me stop, just sort of an annoyance.

What is going on, and is there anything I can do for it, or should I just tough it out?

Thanks!!

Most of the time calluses on the inside of your big toe are caused by pressure points from your foot gear/overpronation.  check with a good running store to ensure the shoe matches your gait.  If the shoes aren't the issue, your next goal should be to soften the callus.  I use 220 grit sand paper to remove the top layer, then soak my feet, then immediately apply eucerin cream.

Also use lots of body glide to the area prior to a long run.

Good luck!!

Hmmm...I use shoes that were prescribed by my running store, but it has been a couple of years. (Not with the same shoes, just the same brand.

But, sandpaper....really???  Isn't there something else?Surprised

Look at the store for items that are made to help remove calluses. The ladies beauty isle will have TONS of selections. There are so many things out there you can buy. That is if you don't want to buy sandpaper.

Once you get the calluses worked off and even before then... made sure you cover your feet in Body Glide (or something similar) before running. And get good socks made for running, if you haven't already. Also don't walk around barefoot. Always wear shoes/socks... even in the house to keep your feet soft.

220 grit sandpaper is probably in the ballpark as a nail file/emory board. I use it because I have some laying around, but I am sure other items used to soften the callus will work.

I also hear a pomous stone works pretty well. Me personally I look forward to the calluses. They hurt alot less then the blisters.
