Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Oatmeal at 7:00 a.m., then toast with peanut butter at 9:30. Race was not until 1:00 but I had to meet some people at 11:00, so left house at 10:00. Hoped to get the end spot on the rack but someone had beat me to it.
Event warmup:

Did a couple of laps in the pool pre-race
Swim
  • 07m 33s
  • 300 yards
  • 02m 31s / 100 yards
Comments:

Pleased with my swim. Not real fast but I did pass some people. Felt very relaxed.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, happy with my swim.
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Left foot slipped off pedal trying to clip in, ok once I got clipped in. Otherwise transition was good.

Bike
  • 44m 38s
  • 13 miles
  • 17.48 mile/hr
Comments:

Pleased with the bike leg. This was only my fourth ride on the new bike and I was not disappointed. Got frustrated right at the end on the last turn back to the transition zone, there was a truck right in the middle of the road. Driver seemed confused about the police car blocking the road. I had to slow down sharply, no way to get around it as people were coming out of transition.
What would you do differently?:

Just need more time on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

My transition area had been disrupted somewhat, probably somebody tripped, so my running gear was out of order. Got a little flustered but didn't lose too much time.
Run
  • 36m 24s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 11m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

This is where I struggled, and it was almost the two mile mark before I found my legs. Need more bike/run bricks to get over this. Walked up the bigger hills and was actually able to catch up with people who ran slowly up the hills. Breathing was rough. There was some leaf burning going on and this irritated my asthma.
What would you do differently?:

Just need lots more bricks and speed work.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around. Wished I had a beer.

Event comments:

Only criticism I have is that the rack I was assigned to was very crowded. Was fine until about three people came in at the last minute and tried to cram their bikes in between mine and the bike on the end. They started moving people's bikes around. I told them not to touch mine. Yeah, I'm an a**hole, but if you want a choice spot, get there early.

Great job out there.

Getting around that truck would mess up anyone at that point in a race.

Having legs post ride is hard.  You have a great plan for getting that down.

Nice job.  I had the same thing happen at the same spot with a truck on the bike.  Tough, hilly course.
