My shoulders sounds like popcorn at times but only hurt when i do certain shoulder strength training. My knees have always been bad, pain while sitting for a while is the worst. What works for everyone, flax seed oil or fish oil or maybe glucosamine?? Currently i take about 2 tablespoons a day of flax oil for the past 2 weeks and notice no difference. thanks for any input

I am not sure that either flax seed oil or fish oil will really do anything for joints.

You're thinking about glucosamine. Flax oil or fish oil can help with cholesterol, not joints.

I don't know how they relate to joints, but I tend to avoid flax seed since it's been shown to raise estrogen levels in males.

I'll disagree with a few folks above.  Fish oil has been shown to have great anti-inflammatory properties and does work well for people with chronic and acute arthritis.

Having said that, cracking when you move isn't necessarily inflammation and isn't a problem unless you're having pain with it.

Never heard that before.

Use glucosamine for overall joint, cartilage, tendon health. I take it daily.

Not exactly.  There are substances in flax seeds that mimic estrogens very weakly in the body.  It actually competes with the estrogen you already have for the same receptor sites and causes them to not exert their effects nearly as much.  This isn't a huge deal for men.

Didn't Barry Bonds do great with flaxseed oil? All his muscles got bigger...even the one between his ears.

The same thing has been said about soy products, too...but I don't see that stopping many males from eating it.

I too, have heard that fish oil acts as an anti-inflammatory agent. FWIW...I use both fish oil supplements and a glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM supplement. The biggest benefit I've noticed with the glucosamine, has been with my knees. Before I started taking glucosamine, I had to limit my running to no more than 2x/week due to knee pain and inflammation. After I had been using glucosamine for a few months, I was able to increase the number of times I ran per week.

Sounds it's actually anti-estrogenic, which is good for men.
