Both my mortgage and my credit card are with the same bank. My credit card currently gives me a a mile per dollar spent. That said, I'm about to make a major pre payment to my mortgage, and am trying to figure a way that I can scam, I mean utitilze some miles out of this payment. I asked the bank if I could use one of those credit card checks to submit it to the mortgage, but those checks don't accumulate miles.

Anyway, any ideas (legal) please?

Thanks.

credit card checks = cash advance.

To the OP:  Ask if your mortgage takes a one-time credit card charge.
I know some serives e.g. natural gas, ultilities, phone would take your monthly payment by automatically charging your credit card.  I had done that int he past and accumulated quite some reward points.

I'm confused. Does your mortgage company not take credit cards for a payment?

If you're simply looking to rack up some miles for rewards, then yeah just put everything you spend on your credit card (and of course pay if off!). My parents used to put my college tuition on theirs.

What exactly was your question?

They used to give miles for those credit card cheks.  Once, we had $5K in the bank, so I wrote a $5K check to my wife.  She deposited it, we took the $5K and paid the bill.   Voila, 5K miles

I thought that cash advances/checks begin accruing interest from the day they are cashed (as opposed to swiped transactions that wait until your cycle is done). With these ridiculous rates these days, I read twice before writing one of those checks.
