I am interested in compiling a list of places where you can swim long distances in open water. I live in Windsor (north central) and now that weather is getting warmer, looking for some places to swim outside.  Also, please let me know of any places where you feel comfortable swimming alone (no boat traffic or other saftey obstacles).   Thanks for all your help.

Donzy - what types of responses did you receive? im in Enfield and looking for local OWS places as well. the only local place i've heard about is Crystal Lake in Ellington, but i havent been there yet so i'm unaware of the safety in terms of boats, etc

I live in Broad Brook (East Windsor) I think you need to be a resident of Ellington to swim there. There is a sprint tri at Crystal lake in July

I swim right off the boat launch at Crystal Lake and follow the rim of the lake to avoid boat traffic.
Or I will have a friend tail me in his kayak. Great training.
You can even swim at the beach, It's only 5 bucks and you can swim out from the beach to where it is netted off, 2 laps = about 400 yrds.
Hope that helps

Thanks for the recent responses.  Being in Windsor and signed up for Ellington race, will likely get out to Crystal Lake in coming week(s).

Still hoping others post their favorite/secret spots.
