Overcast
Total Time = 1h 37m 28s
Overall Rank = 78/117
Age Group = ATHENA
Age Group Rank = 3/7
Pre-race routine:

Since my race didn't start till 10:10am I offered to help at the Registration tent! 1st for me and to be honest, quite stressful! People saying "I filled out a waiver" WAH WAH. Really? But mostly peeps in good humour!
Event warmup:

20 minute swim!
Swim
  • 12m 37s
  • 800 meters
  • 01m 35s / 100 meters
Comments:

Fastest race time ever! Didn't even feel like I was really moving! Really! I am utterly stoked by this! Guess my love of swimming FINALLY paid off!

I have never been punched, kicked or almost drowned like I did in this swim! I was right at the front which was obviously a mistake on my part. At one point two people were right on top of me pushing me under, God knows how much water I swallowed but it threw me off, made me panic and my breathing was erratic but I soon talked myself into a rhythm by singing to myself. It worked.
What would you do differently?:

Stay to back and then pass everyone when we all spread out.
Transition 1
  • 03m 38s
Comments:

Incredibly dizzy and frazzled. My ears are an issue with me right now and I felt so out of it. I need to work on this and I'm going to try my next swim with ear plugs for sure!
What would you do differently?:

Practice more water to T1's. Ear plugs.
Bike
  • 42m 17s
  • 11.86 miles
  • 16.83 mile/hr
Comments:

Got out of T1 and hauled ass. Because I took so long to get out of T1 everyone else took off. I passed a crap load of peeps and only got passed a couple of times myself. When I did pass people it was on the hills so that has just made my weekend. Felt strong, very strong and could have pushed more but I worried about my legs and the run as that's my weakest event.

On the way back we got pelted with HAIL! And fook if it ever stung! I sped up a bit then because I wanted to get the hell out of it and off the bike.

One gal on a mountain bike decided that whenever I tried to pass her on the left she moved right. Like a road block. FFS! WTF!? Oh I was pissed. At the end I ended up going towards the right instead of the left because I couldn't get passed her. I had to bike between parked cars to get back to T2. The stupid cow.
What would you do differently?:

Shoot people in the back of the head with a BB gun.
Transition 2
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

In and out, few Luna moons, guzzle of water.... on my way!
What would you do differently?:

Nuttin'.
Run
  • 37m 1s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 11m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

A little improvement. Not much. My hips are just so tight that it feels as if my legs are joined together from the knees up.

I stopped too long at the water station chatting. silly me. If I hadn't my splits would have been negative.

I ran 7:1 quite comfortably. Apart from the stiffness it worked well.

I kept telling runners going towards the water station they were handing out Gin and Tonics. Always good to have a laugh, right?

And instead of running across the finish line like any normal human being I decided to do a somersault instead, except I didn't make it all the way around and fell right back onto my arse again. Makes for excellent "FAIL FINISH" photo!
What would you do differently?:

YOGA! STRETCHING! Anything to loosen myself up.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretching but mostly eating and starbucks.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of mobility in the legs, stiff.

Event comments:

In my top 3 for sure. Making it a yearly event for sure. Aint that right Leslie?

Hi!  Great RR and great race.  Definitely an annual event!!!!!!!  Did you know I got first in both Athena and would have in my AG as well?? There was only one other 40-44 year old!  Ha.  I can't wait to see the finish photo.  That somersault was awesome and I am lucky to have witnessed it in person!  Awesome weekend!!

I'm speechless.

LOL!!

Congrats, excellent job!  Maybe next time you'll actually try a little!  I've never actually witnessed a racer stopping for chats at the water stations - too funny!
