Age Group Rank = 8/8
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 7:00...My heat didn`t start untill 10:50. Ate a bannana and a granola bar. Got out of the hotel by 8:00, went for a bagel. Had another bar and some gatorade.
Event warmup:

Not much of a warmup at all, its a pool swim and you couldn`t do any warm up laps. So they gave us the down lo, told us to get in the pool and within seconds we were off.
Swim
  • 14m 52s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 59s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim was pretty good, considering the amount of swimming I have done in the last 5 months, pretty much just twice a week at swim practice...ITS BAD! I was in the lead for the first lap, lol.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, just need to train more.
Transition 1
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

Well this was an interesting event. So I get to transition, put my socks on, put my helmet and glasses on, realize I didn`t put my tri top on, take my helmet and glasses off and put my tri top on. Almost rip my tri top because its difficult to put on, and then back to the helmet and glasses then my shoes, then I run out of there. 2:30 is approximate as it is included in the bike leg time.
What would you do differently?:

Wear my tri top in the swim..would save lots of time! Put shoes on the bike, but my current shoes aren`t good for that.
Bike
  • 45m 18s
  • 22.4 kms
  • 29.67 km/hr
Comments:

I can`t even beleive my darn gears, they worked fine in the morning and I just had it in the shop a few days earlier! Gonna have to go back there! What a piss off. Oh well...
What would you do differently?:

Use more gears ;o)
Transition 2
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

This was another slow go, 2:30 is guessing...Took helmet off, glasses off. Put watch on my wrist, slipped shoes on...and off I went...Watch was difficult to put on..took too much time.
What would you do differently?:

Either not take the Garmin or have it on for the swim.
Run
  • 26m 12s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 14s  min/km
Comments:

I couldn`t even beleive how my legs felt when I started running. I had been training at a lower cadence and I think with the insane cadence I had to keep on the bike it killed my legs. I didn`t find them until the 2nd lap after I made it past the killer hill! It was too late at that point.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder through the pain
Post race
Warm down:

stretched..ate, took it easy...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Broken bike, slow transitions, and crappy run off the bike..

Event comments:

Great race for a beginner(in a way)...great pool swim, but hard run course.

Course: BIKE PROBLEMS! I only had 2 gears on the rear derailleur that worked! What a pain, and it was the biggest in the rear and the second biggest! High cadence day here I come! Course had one hill that went up to an airplace tarmac. The bike course was good, longer then 20 km`s though as they said it was. We did 4 laps of the tarmac, one was was a headwind and the other was good.
