I need to replace my Native Hardtops because when I ride in the drops, the top of the frame gets in my field of vision unless I keep the glasses pushed up real tight.

I am conservative by nature with a smallish face, so I have shied away from the larger sunglasses, but function is important at this point.

I'm looking at the Tifosi Ventoux with the red Fototec lens.  Do red lens really work like they say in reducing glare off pavement and is this the best lens choice for triathlon?  I will only use these for biking and running.

What do you wear and/or recommend?  I don't want to spend a lot of money if I can help it.  But I do like quality...

I have Oakley Half Jackets which fit in to the smaller category.  I really do love these glasses.  Although I am having some similar problems with them when I am in the aero position.

I just tried on a pair of Rudy Project Sportmasks (they have a smaller one).

When I looked at the picture, I thought "no friggin' way."

However, try them on... I was surprised how they looked and felt.
I also sat on a bike in aero -- perfect.

I was so psyched and surprised about everything but the price.

then I was told no Rx inserts or lenses....

p.s. - I know you said not to spend too much. However, if you need other equipment they have a bundle with a t-shirt, bike helmet, transition bag, and running cap that makes the price a little more palatable.

Or you can use the promo code "prodeal". I think it is 40% off.

I use the Serfas Traitors. They have several interchangeable lenses, however, I have left the "rose colored" lenses in since I got them. Fit well and $50....

I have the Tifosi Vogel with the fototec lens, and I love them. I love not having the frame across the top of the glasses.

I don't notice a glare off the pavement, but I would have to try some other glasses to see if there is a difference. The lenses don't change drastically with different light, but I can where them on bright days, cloudy days, and early mornings and still see clearly.

I used to have a bunch of different oakleys that I invested a lot of money into. I now feel its a waste to put so much into ONE pair of sunglasses. Now I wear Ryders. They are inexpensive and if you have a shop that carries a lot of them you can find a couple of comfortable pairs that dont slip and have quality lenses. I tried the red lenses before but didnt like them. I use brown iridium (sp?) lenses now. Ryders retail for around 35-50.

I have been wearing the Tifosi Strada with the interchangable lenses for a couple weeks and I'm pretty happy with them.

It sounds like everyone is using some higher end sunglasses which are great. I personally bought some el cheapo sun glasses and love them, from Nashbar. They actually make a frameless sun glass that I bought in orange. The only reason I bought them was due to the fact that when I was on the drops and heading down hill, it was very hard to see without the frame getting in the way. I got mine for about $10, I think they are normally like $20. Like I said, these are definitely some cheapies, but since I have a tendency to break/misplace expensive things, they were ideal for me. If you are used to using very very nice eyewear, you might think these are awful so take it for what it's worth, just another option.

I also like the Ryders - SPADE

I like the yellow tint.  Takes the glare off the sun, enough that you dont have to squint, but doesnt make it too dark in low light, shadows, tunnels, dawn, dusk, overcast etc.
I really like the open top too.  Great in aero, unobstructed view and eyes are still covered.  I do take the extra second to change my sunglasses for the run and go w/ a darker/smoke tint.  These cost me $40.  not cheap, but not expensive either.

A few weeks ago I bought the Tifosi Ventoux and really like them. I was considering a more frameless style for issues others have mentioned about looking through the top of the glasses and possbily having the frame get in the way. But the Ventoux have a nice domed top frame design which provide plenty of visual in aero and are a good size overall for eye protection. The extra lenses were a bonus, the moldable nose-piece is a plus and $50 isn't bad for glasses imo.

Good luck!

Well I went with a pair from probikekit.com in their clearance section.  Cost was just over $20, with 5 lenses.  They aren't going to get me any super cool points, but they fit, were pretty cheap, and do what I need them to.

Thanks.  I looked at the Ventoux also.  Kinda like them.  Today I looked at the Ryder's Treviso's.  Not sure if they would be better or not.  Decisions,decisions...

Nashbar has two pair of Bolle's for $55.
Extra $80 if you want prescription inserts.

Ended up with a pair of Serfas Sike Out glasses.  They fit high on my face actually covering my eyebrows completely and they came with photochromatic polarizing lens plus 3 other sets of lens'.

They may not be as "fly" as my Natives, but they won't get in my line of sight anymore!

Thanks everyone for your feedback and suggestions!
