A couple of articles (yes, I read them) have mentioned paper race numbers for the run. Is this generally how it is done? Your body is marked for the swim and the ride, but you still have to pin on a paper number for the run?

Usually the paper number is required on the bike and run. That's where the race number belt comes in. Just slap on the belt in T1, number on back for the bike. Spin the number to the front in T2 for the run.

Yeah, I actually wear the number and belt under my wetsuit, most races these days the numbers are printed on waterproof material like typar.  I do this because one time in transition I forgot my number so now its on and I don't have to think about it.

Actually if you have a timing chip, the race number is superfluous and mostly there for the photographer.

I forgot mine at my first tri beginning of the month. Volunteer told me to run on and not worry about it. BUT I intend to get a race belt for next race. I want my number on the picture to PROVE I was racing!

I use a race belt. It's very easy to grab it last thing as you're hustling out of T2 and strap it 'round you as you're starting your run.
