Subject: First shirtless run
I live in Houston where it is CRAZY hot and humid.  I usually run in shorts, sport bra and some kind of non cotton top.  But in long runs even the runner style tops bug me after a while.  Many times while out running I wished I could just take my top off.  I always feel jealous when I see men running & swimming topless.  Don't get me wrong, I need the sports bra so I couldn't go completely bare but the thought is nice.
This morning while deciding how long I was going to run today I decided to take the plunge and run shirtless.  I'm not really modest but after 5 kids I'm not used to the general public seeing my mid section.  Well..... I feel liberated and will likely run shirtless from now on Wink

You are braver than I am!  I've thought about it, but I feel so insecure about people seeing me without a shirt on.

Ok, be kind and keep in mind I have been pregnant AND/OR nursing for almost 9 solid years.  And ummmm I'm obviously no spring chicken.

Keri -
Let anyone else think whatever they want.
I often run in just the spandex shorts.  Many would put on shorts over the spandex.  But to heck with vanity or appearance, I am running (or exercising) for the sport; not to impress others.

So, sure, run like that if it is what is comfortable.  Especially in the weather down in Texas.

Sweet!  Keep on running just the way you are.

And keep track of the number of traffic accidents that happen in the vicinity.

Good for you!

I have five kids too....and ran last summer a few times when hot in my compression shorts and sports bra.  My husband and kids would say you are running in that..my answer yep...who cares..we are to old to worry about what other folks think of us.

It is funny progress as when I started training for my first tri 6 years ago I'd only run in the dark so my neighbors wouldn't see me.

As a point of reference, I see women/girls running in the same attire here in NC all the time and I doubt they get a second look.  Well, maybe some of them do.  But really, you certainly don't have anything to be ashamed of, that's for sure.  By the way, my wife wears the same thing when she runs or walks outside and she's had two kids.  No big deal, enjoy the 'liberation'.

Honey, you look fine! You look MORE than fine. And even if you DIDN'T look fine (which  totally does not aplly here, b/c like I said, you look great)...who cares. Be comfortable.

Nice - you look great for 5 kids! My abs still jiggle a little too much for my comfort, esp. since I'm otherwise thin and feel like I "should" have nice abs, so it'll be a little while until I rock the sports bra - but hopefully by the end of the summer.

I have run shirtless exactly once.  I was at Kure Beach supporting my sister and wanted to fit a run in during her bike ride.  It was amazingly hot.  As soon as I pulled my top off and ran in just the sports bra I felt liberated, not to mention cooler.  I haven't done it since because most of my runs are with the group, but I always buy sports bras now with the consideration of wearing just that.

I love it!

Hey, when it's as hot and humid as it has been here lately, I run with as few clothes on as possible. Last night - shorts and a sports bra. I do it all the time.

I wear my tri top and tri shorts. Luckily my tri top covers my torso and has a high neck line. The pockets are great for longer runs.

But yeah, sometimes I just say, "SCREW IT- if they don't like it, they don't have to look", and I run in shorts and a small sports bra (for shorter run sessions).

I sometimes run in Houston.  I know exactly how you feel.  If you break a sweat you can be assured your shirt will weigh about 5 lbs at the end of the run.

I thought I was used to being around female athletes by being a competitive cheerleader for 6 years and being the minority gender in the locker room.

I did not know that people thought that working out in a sports bra was big deal until now.

This is a first for me.

Don't feel the need to qualify yourself.

How many obnoxious, shirtless men have larger breasts than athletic females?
(Seriously, the most sexist comments that I have heard said to women are from the ugliest, fattest dudes -- don't get that.)

If they can go shirtless, you can wear a sports bra with pride.

I used to run in just shorts and a sports bra, back when I was in my early 20s and ridiculously fit. Now? I'm too self conscious to do it. (That, and I tend to burn. So it's a high SPF and a wicking shirt for me!) My jiggly mid-section bugs me!

I have definitely noticed very, very, very, very large men, walking around shirtless and apparently with no self-consciousness at all. I'm jealous.

Oh well- off to drop my bike at the repair shop, followed by a swim/run brick. Yay!
