I'm no fit stud, but I've been running shirtless some to help combat that goofy cycling jersey tan I have going on.

Granted most of my runs are done pretty early and finishing up when the sun is coming up, or just afterwards. Either way, it's not long.

As a guy, I don't feel all that comfortable w/ my gut bouncing on the run. Hopefully soon, it'll work out and I won't be so concerned!

One of my goals is to feel comfortable running w/out a shirt this summer around my home. Did it once at the beach last year at 6am thinking I'd never run into anyone and sure enough...here comes my husband's friend's wife running towards me. Ugghh..

I could never run without a shirt, so I'm quite in awe of your liberation.  Heck, I tend to wait until the last second to take my shirt off at the pool.

Maybe someday...but I just don't see it in the near future.

There will be no shirtless running in my future, anytime soon.   Bad enough I feel uncomfortable wearing a tri top or trisuit.  I have far too much loose skin from weight loss, to be running around sans top.

But I think the OP looks great in her sportsbra & shorts...more power to her!

I think BOTH ladies who posted in this thread look amazing, I don't care what anyone says. Kudos to you for going for it and not caring what others say or think. I can only hope that someday I can get there too. I'm one of the most self-conscious people I know - doubt it'll ever happen for me.

Good for you!!! I wish I wasn't so self conscience...I even have a hard time wearing tank tops! I wish I had the guts to run shirtless, especially during my long runs. The only times I've done it are in my basement on the treadmill...it's so hot down there!!! Anyways, you look great and enjoy your liberation!

to the OP- you look great!!! And I love your attitude.

I've run shirtless with a sports bra top exactly twice. Once was in another city where I knew no one and it was like 95 degrees and it started raining and I was getting chaffed from the wet shirt.

The other time I was in my neighborhood and feeling brave.

Maybe I'll do it again next year. It truly is something women struggle with, but I think we are our own worst enemies, we care about how it looks more than other people do!

I don't run topless.  I've often wanted to but first I still feel too fat to  pull it off and second I sweat a LOT.  I use the shirt as a sweat wiper.  People probably get the same view while I'm wiping as if I weren't wearing a shirt at all, but by that time I don't really care so much.  What do all you shirtless folks do when sweat starts dripping in your eyeballs?

Oh, sorry to the OP.  That's off topic.  I'm proud of you for running without your shirt.  I'll get there one day!

When it is warm enough, I always run in just tri-shorts. Yesterday, after my run I did 20 or so minutes of yard work in just tri-short/shoes. I received a few looks, but who cares?

Hell, my swim jammers are just bigger than a banana hammock. Think I care, NO.

Who cares what others may think? What does it matter what they think as they drive by, when you are out in the heat running/biking. Go forth and rock it while you train!!

LOL......this thread has me chuckling to myself. I get so over heated that I have been running in shorts and a sports bra since about April. I always leave the house with every intention of leaving my shirt ON, but eventually peel it off and leave it hanging in a tree, or tucked under a bush or something. Leaving little bits of my wardrobe all over the hood!!

Wear a headsweat visor or a sweat band.  It's just too damn hot around here to run in anything other than no shirt or a tri top.  Shirtless just saves me some extra laundry I'd have to do.

I run shirtless 80% of the time in the Texas heat. It's just too hot otherwise.

I really don't care what people think though. I've worked hard to be in the shape I'm in and I've never been the shy type.

I wear a tri top that goes down to my hips... but I can't pull it up to wipe my face... because it's too wet with sweat to even bother...

So I wipe the sweat with my hands.

In the really hot summer months, I actually pack a baggie with paper towels (put in the back of my tri shorts, with the top flipped over- trust me- I don't feel it and it stays put) and wipe it with that. It gets so hot in Texas I also have to rinse my eyes with water because they burn from the salt oozing into them.

Funny how a thread with the word "shirtless" in the title gets over 1000 hits!

Congrats - and you have inspired me!  I have 2 kids and my goal this summer is to get me some abs!  I am now revising my goal to include abs + a run in a jog bra before the end of summer.

One question... in addition to the general flabbiness issue, I am also concerned about how blindingly white my ab area is.  Any suggestions?  When I finally get ready to brave a run in a jog bra would it be silly to use a self-tanner or should I just suck it up and flash the glowing white skin?

To the OP..
Spend some time here.

Heck, even go on a few runs while there.
It may be a good shift in perspective.
