JohnAgs3 - 2009-07-18 1:22 PM FYI: I was at the park today. The water is relatively warm...I would guess 79-80, maybe more? I tested it at the swim exit (i.e., the boat ramp) which might be a little warmer than mid-lake or the start, but very very doubtful that its going to be wetsuit legal.

Cool, thanks for the update.

Water was 78.0 in the middle of the lake at about 10 am...so there's a chance!

I went out and bought a new tri suit for this race under the impression it won't be wetsuit legal, so I'm kinda hoping for no wetsuits . Although, I'll have a MUCH better swim with a wetsuit .

Got a question for the guy's out there that have done tri's that are not wetsuit legal.  (I have completed my first 2 this year and used a wetsuit in both.)  Do you where your tri top during the swim or do you not wear it and put it on in transition?  My top has pockets on the back and can't help but think that this will catch a little bit of water during the swim, that is drag that I could do without.  But then trying to get the top on after getting out of the water can not be that easy either.  So...what do you do?

i have a 1 piece - wear it - the pockets dont seem to be a prob - they are tight enuff to not catch water and i think the fabric allows water flow through as well.  i never thought about pockets catching water before reading ur message so am thinking its not a problem.

I was just debating the same issue. I have attempted to put on a tri top being wet and it can be a pain. I was considering just doing the whole race in just tri shorts.

Yeah, just swim in the top and don't worry about the pocket drag at all. And def don't try and put the top on in transition!

Thanks

Ugh.   I'm in wave 20.  Will all the food be gone by the time I finish?   I know the course closes at 2:00... how long do people hang out and party afterwards?

x 2. Really really bummed about that. It's about 2 hrs later than I would have liked to have started (well, assuming the Oly didn't start until 8:35). Yuck! Transition closes nearly two hours before our wave goes off. Major suckage...and really need to figure out what to do about my nutrition.

Major Uggghh.  I am in wave 22.  Last to go out. This is my first Oly and I am a VERY slow swimmer.  I had a rough time with currents at Long Branch a few weeks ago, so am also dealing with mental demons.  I may am likely to be the last person out of the lake.  Am also still wondering what to wear.  Given the time I will be on the course am guessing a potty break might be needed, so that makes the 1 piece less attractive (in so many other ways as well.)

So save a beer for the last 45-49 F off the course.   I'm gonna need it.

Looks like we can have breakfast when sprint starts. Have almost 2 hours to digest. No need to eat early. Set up transition and wait.

I'll bring the camping stove and the pancake mix.   You bring sausage and orange juice.

Thank God for the iphone.  Anyone know when the local Starbucks open up?   I figure I'm still having to leave the brother in law's house in Pennington at 5:30am.

kcarroll, I'm with you in wave 22- and have the same thoughts about being last in the lake (swimming is also my weakest leg by far) so maybe we can keep each other company both before we start and as they're cleaning up the swim exit after us I'm really still in shock that we have to wait so long to start- and wondering if the bike and run course will be more crowded because of our late start or less crowded because everyone else will be just about finished???

Has anyone else started this late before and what was the course like at that point, besides hot? Does the bike course get clogged and hard to get through or is it really spread out at that point? I may be slow on the swim but I'm stronger on the bike and wonder if I am going to be fighting through a lot of crowds that late in the game. Any thoughts?

Looking forward to a great race despite the late start!

Oh, dammit.  I'm in wave 21.  F'ing seriously?  All the post race stuff is going to be LONG gone before I get to the finish.

And what's worse is that I have to get in the car and DRIVE for 8 hours after this race!  We're never going to get to our destination at a reasonable hour.

I guess wave 21 should be a 9:15ish start. 4' a pop...that's 28 minutes to my wave...doesn't start until 0835....so, more like 0905.  Still, late.  Ugh.
