My pace was 9:33 in a 5K I did last weekend!  Granted, it was just a 5K, but that's the fastest I've run since my college rugby days!  My goal was to find someone faster then me, and just trail them the whole race.  Worked like a charm.

I'm sure this is no big deal to most, but I haven't broke a 10 minute mile in probably a decade.  I was so excited, that I had to share

Congrats!  thats great.

I'm still in the 10:30 range for a 5K.  2miles, Im good for a sub 10, but that last mile puts my time just over.  Hopefully, I'll be joinging you soon in the celebration.

I've never considered myself a distance runner.  I could do an 8 minute mile for a fitness test, but wouldnt be able to maintain that pace.

I'm just happy that I can run the full 5K w/o stopping and faster than I did last year.  Although, I have a had a few set backs w/ my pace this year b/c of a nagging MCL injury.

Thanks!  For both of my previous multi sport events (1 triathlon, 1 duathlon), I've always averaged at around 10:30 as well.  I think knowing that there was no biking, swimming or additional running helped me out mentally.  I was able to focus on just cranking through those 3 miles as fast as I could.

I was completely gassed at the finish line, but that was fine, I left it all on the road and that was what I wanted to do.

In my world that's huge! I can totally appreciate your accomplishment!

I was glad to go from a 14 minute mile to just over 11 in a few months... I think I'd die if I hit sub 10!

Great job!

Great job LittleAl on achieving your mile stone!

By the way... no need to qualify your results by saying it was just a 5K. It was 5K more running than 90% of the population did that day. You beat your best and now you have a new goal.

Let me be the first to ask, Hey Al when are you going to break a 9 minute mile? Have fun chasing another PR.

That is great news, congrats!  I have found that doing interval training once a week or so has helped to make me faster.  My tri on Saturday--my 2nd PR this month--had me running under 8-min miles!  And I am not small.

Yes, when's the under 9 min mile coming??

That is really great!  You have inspired me!!

I have set that goal for myself over the summer and along with my weight training I am going to run twice a week plus and try and get my times down.   Ran my first tri on Sunday and the run is my worst part.  13 min miles in the Tri. I have never been a runner and dont neccesarily want to be....except for those 3.2 miles on Sundays!

Its my ankles that give me the most trouble.  Has that been an issue with you?  I did get fitted with a really good pair of running shoes yesterday and ran about 2.5 this morning with less pain but still walked the other .7   Finished in 35 minutes so it was better than Sunday..but had not just come off the bike.

Any suggestions as to training my ankles to get past this pain?  no significant injuries in my past, no surguries.  I did race off road motorcycles for years and maybe that has a little to do with it, but they do not hurt unless I am running.

Congrats again and good luck getting to 9.  Great accomplishment.

Thanks man, this could be the first time I ever inspired anyone!   As for your ankles, I wish I could help you.  My ankles are OK, my knees are a horror show though (tendonitis in both).  I bought some proper running shoes, and that helps.  I also ice down my knees after most of my runs, and that keeps me going as well.

I often find myself qualifying my results, too, especially around more elite atheletes, but Houstonrider is right on.  Most people were at home eating chips and watching Idol.

I have not thought of the ice down...ill give that a shot.

The new running shoes have made a difference and I am in a 5k training mode with this app on my I phone.  its on and off running/walking and in 8 weeks supposed to get me up to the 5k.  Feels good so far.  Have my girlfriend on it also so we can do it togther and that helps a lot.

Everyone is right....we are out there struggling through 5k and most are struggling for the next beer and chips.  Sometimes we dont give ourselves enough credit for how far we have come.  If you could only bottle that feeling of accomplishment and share it with those who dont get off that couch.....

Take care!

Way to go.  Keep it up and you'll be shocked at how much faster you get.  Plus, running just burns the pounds right off you.
