Age Group = Athena open age
Age Group Rank = 2/
Pre-race routine:

This was my first Tri but I felt really calm in a.m. since I packed everything last night and checked it a zillion times. Irish oatmeal and coffee for breakfast worked great - gotta' remember that next time
Event warmup:

Got to park early and walked around a bit. Checked out swim course from pier and saw an enourmous bald eagle doing touch and goes on the water nearby. Good omen.
Swim
  • 09m 13s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 18s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim felt good - over so fast - my wave really clustered at the bouys so I went a bit wider and avoided that. Was surprised that I had to breath so often but that's something to work on. The breathing really slowed me down. Had wetsuit half off on way to T1. Was really glad I started toward the front and had a bit more space to move around - only got one foot in the face.
What would you do differently?:

just spend more time swimming
Transition 1
  • 03m 24s
Comments:

wetsuit came off so fast (thanks Body Glide) but I sort of dilly dallied putting shoes on. Threw on bike jersey and helmet and was off. Also forced myself to have a gel and water so it'd kick in by T2 and run
What would you do differently?:

Pick up the speed a bit. I was surprised at time for this - thought it was faster
Bike
  • 37m 8s
  • 9.2 miles
  • 14.87 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike was the best! Felt so good - eveything was working together and I even was able to take my water bottle out and drink with out crashing ;) After the race, I kept saying "I really love my bike" and my sister said "yeah, you've already said that several times). One hill kicked my butt on both loops so I need to work more on that.
What would you do differently?:

not much - I had so much fun on the bike> Didn't expect to love the bike section so much.
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

felt great in T2 - it flew by
What would you do differently?:

Psyche myself up that my legs are going to feel like cement in about 1 minute
Run
  • 20m 10s
  • 1.6 miles
  • 12m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

Well, I've done a bunch of bike/run bricks but my legs still tweeked out starting the run. Thankfully I knew this happens so I hung in there and then picked up the pace. No way around it, run is my weakest link although when I looked at times, I averaged 12:38/mi which is actually good for me since I haven't been able to run for a month or so due to injury.
What would you do differently?:

run faster and not think about having to pee so much
Post race
Warm down:

walked over to sister and daughter. Walked a bit to cool down and then lots of strecthes. Had the best tasting banana I've ever eaten.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

extra weight and the run (but both at things I can improve - sweet!)

Event comments:

this is an absolutely fantastic race for fist timers. The volunteers are everywhere cheering you on. It was beautifully organized.
