Magnum27 - 2009-11-05 9:44 AM I am looking at getting P90X and have a question.

I understand that you need to drill holes into your doorframe for there pullup bar.

Does anyone know of a good bar to buy that you don't have to do that.

thanks!

You don't need to drill holes!!!  There are pull up bars like this:

http://www.beachbody.com/product/fitness_gear/p90x_gear/p90x_chin_up_bar.do

This is the beachbody version but you should be able to find something similar at any workout equipment place.  These things work amazingly well... you can even loop your bands around it and do the band pull ups.   That is what I do... superset the pullups then immediately pull out 10 band pull ups (YOUCH it feels good, haha).

But I highly recommend something like this.  It doesn't do anything bad to your door frame and it is very stable!

Great - I was going to get those but on Amazon the reviews said you need to drill holes into the door. Great news!

Thanks!

No drilling-Amazon Pullup bar-says out of stock, look at target or local sporting goods. These are extremely popular and convenient.

I use this kind and it works great.  HOWEVER,  It will mark and dent the door frame to which my wife takes a dim view...

Really?  I've not had this problem as of yet... been using it about a year and a half now.  Haha... I hope it doesn't happen!

For those of you keeping score at home, week 6 done.  Time to start week 7 in about 10 minutes.  Still getting in a little swimming biking and running, but I am thinking that when p90x is done my schedule will look mighty open for alot of training!

Hey everyone...after lurking around this thread I have finally took the plunge and started P90x.  Going into day 6 today (Kenpo x) and absolutely loving it.  Plyometrics kicked my butt leaving my hamstrings crying out for mercy and me almost unable to walk normally up the stairs!  I found Yoga pretty intense, especially the first section...crane for 1:00 anyone?  I am going to keep plodding away, keeping everyone informed and hopefully will gain strength because of it.  Going to try and swim twice a week and maybe spin once in addition to the P90x.  Thanks for all of your discussions as they have really helped convince me to try this.  Anybody willing, for those who have been through this already, to post their before/after photos?  Peace...

Kenpo is the "fun" day for sure.  I have my 0/30/60 day photos in my album.  Not sure why I never did 90,  but oh well.  Remember that I am an old guy and be nice if you look....P90X ROCKS!!!

Helpful tips:

If folks are having trouble fitting in the full P90X workouts into your usual S/B/R routine, you can easily do a "halfsies" rotation - the strength workouts are all structured in such a way to make them really easy to split in 1/2. You'll still get in a great workout, but in 1/2 the time.

Another option is to look into the X+ series - another series by Tony, very P90X in feel, but more "functional" - the strength workouts remind me a lot of CoreSyn in the original X. TotalBody+ is one of the best full body strength workouts for athletes, in my opinion! You can schedule TotalBody+ 2x/week fairly easily with s/b/r (at least in my experience), or structure a lot of fun rotations using a combination of the X and X+ workouts.

Hopefully this hasn't been mentioned already! Feel free to ping me with questions - I'm multi-year X-veteran, and a BeachBody coach.

I am pretty sure that no one (not me for sure) has mentioned combining different programs.  Sounds like fun,  but then again I think "Insanity" sounds fun.  I need to try that some day soon.

The X+ comes with a rotation to help you mix up the Classic X with the X+ workouts, and once you get them, you can really just figure out what makes sense for you and your training. It definitely helps mix things up a bit.

I hear you on Insanity!!! I got it a while back, but haven't yet started it - I really need to!!!!! Even if only for a couple of workouts a week. I've heard AMAZING things about it.

I do the same kinds of variations--split the lifting routines in half and mix and match them--and it works really well with tri training. You really don't need to be doing an hour of lifting per workout. Halfsies still include more exercises and reps than you'll get in a lot of weightlifting plans. I just hit 'em hard and get in as many reps as my body can handle in 30 minutes.

well mspina and delosh I am with you all the way.  Even Tony says to "modify" .  This program like any other works best when we make it work around what we want to accomplish.  Too many of us get tied up in the "it says I have to do xxx" now what do I do?"  Being an old guy I have come to the conclusion that

A)  I do this for health

B)  I do this for fun

C)  Since no one is paying me I do it for fun

Will I ever be the fastest, strongest, etc...Nope,  but I will be the smiliest....

Michelle is awesome and helping me right now! From what I have seen at beachbody there are many different combinations of workouts or hybrids using P90,P90x,P90x+,Insanity, Chalean. I will be doing a P90x-+ mix when I finish my first round, I also plan to do Insanity soon. Right now Im starting week 5 Phase 2.

I put that because I was grumbling on here about my times not getting any faster.  One of the BTer's remembered me at the Tri and said I might be faster if I didn't stop and chat with everyone and It couldn't be too bad since I was smiling the whole time.  I made a decision at that point that I could be faster or just enjoy it and I decided to enjoy it and be smilier.

P.S.  I know that word doesn't exist but it does for me...
