Hello-good luck to everyone. I am curious to know what percentage of racers will wear wetsuites. I would imagine most will not.

If they are allowed, I'll wear mine, even for this short swim.

I know for the long course I only saw 1 person last year not wearing it.  Much different of course, but still.  Some argue to wear whenever possible.  1/4 mile swim, I doubt I would.

Your "first look" weather forecast is calling for partly sunny skies, a high of 77 degrees with winds of 8mph from West, Northwest on Sunday, July 26.

I'll take that....

Since I am still a newbie, I am curious as to why some people are considering the use of a wetsuit. I did my frist tri in Buffalo without one, so I am not familiar with the advantages of using one.

I am assuming it is not because of the water temperature, since the lake is warm enough to swim in this time of year.

Do wetsuits offer better flotation or do they improve swim speed? Or somethine else I am not aware of?

Dang it! I wish I would have known that before my first race, where I was pretty sure I was going to drown. Wait, yep, I am pretty sure I did drown.

I may have to seriously think about investing in one then. I was so winded and light headed after that first race.

Good to know. Thanks xctfnorseman!

Your tired on your first race whether you have a wet suit or not. I'm still on the fence. If it were .4 or .5 its an easy decision. This is my first .25. Reading reports from last year it was a long .25. Good luck

I did the sprint last year and did not wear a wet suit. For me it was the right choice. I think it all comes down to how comfortable you are in the water....

db-how much time did you think you lost in the swim vs having to take the wet suit off in tansition. i want to save all of my energy for the rest of the race. i did both multiple times over the weekend. wet suit was definately easier but i am pretty comfortable in the water. do they send out individuals or whole packs of people? at lifetime i was 400/1000 so i am in the top half of swimmers. i think i will have to make it a race day decision.

Well, I can tell you I finished 16/56 in my AG in the swim which is pretty good for me and I had my fastest transition time ever.

They did wave starts.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I signed up for the half, but have transferred to the sprint. My MCL has been bugging me after running. I will be wearing my wetsuit for the swim, just so I am not as tired when I come out of the water. Good luck to everyone.

According to the race info it is fairly flat. Some rolling.

I biked the course this weekend, and it is fairly flat with some rolly hills in the middle. There were two spots along the course that were horrible though, with holes and cracks in one section, and raised tar patches in another. Will have to grin and bear it. The rest is smooth as can be.

Yes, it was definitely (or sure seemed like it) longer than 1/4 mile. I was thinking more like 0.4 mile!!!.... Unless just every one just swam super slow today...

Yeeeeeaaahhh, that was a bit over a quarter mile swim. The times say it all. Does anyone know if someone is writing the race director? Or if there will be an updated (and corrected) distance listed somewhere? I hope so. Otherwise, a fun race and a beautiful day!

Hope everyone did well!

Swims are ver seldomly ever measured right.  It's a little frustrating but that's just the way it is.  You all swim the same course.  I'm pretty sure the half was short.  So I guess we can just average them out

I also thought the swim was long.  I've worked hard on my swim, and to see less then a one minute improvement from last year was disapointing.  It just motivated me for the bike.

It was a good race though.  Congrats to all who finished.

It's kind of funny with all the GPS units around the transition area they can't grab one take it out 1/8th of a mile and drop the anchor fo the last buoy.

It was a great day and a great race except for the fact that someone pulling out of their driveway almost ran over David Thompson while he was about a mile into his run.

That and the fact that someone was hit by a car during the bike portion.  I was told that by one of the emergency personel at the finish line.  I saw the him in the ambulance and there were several people helping him.  Apparently it wasn't very serious though.
