Raleigh, North Carolina

Set-Up, Inc.
80F / 27C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 37m 1s
Overall Rank = 35 F/335 F
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 2/52
Pre-race routine:

Scott and I spent the night at Tom's who lives close. We got up around 5:30am...had coffee, bowl of cheerios and milk and headed down to the race site.
Event warmup:

Waited in line for the port-a-john!
Swim
  • 18m 14s
  • 750 yards
  • 02m 26s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim was a bit choppier than I had anticipated. I didn't feel very confident, the start felt crowded. I am not the strongest swimmer so I normally am near the back of the pack and get passed by the fast people in the next wave. However, they started the men 25-29 after us so I felt like I was being passed A LOT! Even nearing the end of the swim I was still getting bopped on the head by swimmers passing me!
What would you do differently?:

I just need more swim time in the pool and in open water.
Transition 1
  • 02m 16s
Comments:

Holy transition run...the transition area was HUGE but I had no idea the run from the water to the bike would be so long! Gave me time to regroup though before getting on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Be more aware of the swim to bike transition...
Bike
  • 54m 23s
  • 17.5 miles
  • 19.31 mile/hr
Comments:

Considering Scott and I had rode 60 miles the day before I was VERY happy with my bike performance. I felt a little tired in the beginning but once I had warmed up I felt strong.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe not ride 60 miles the day before a race! But...that's all a part of IM training right?
Transition 2
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

My bike to run transition time did not get posted...I'm just guessitimating my time based on what other did. I had a good transition. Had to tie up my shoes and grabbed a bit of my Powerbar.
What would you do differently?:

I need to get the shoe laces that don't require tying up!
Run
  • 20m 30s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

Guessimate again on my run but I felt really strong...loved the trail run!
Post race
Event comments:

Great race...I'll definately do this one again!

Great race- I can't believe you did a long ride the day before this race!  And you're right- you do need to get some locklaces so you don't have to tie your shoes. I love mine and they make putting on shoes so much easier

Great race! I didn't know you were racing this one - too bad, would have liked to meet you. The swim was choppy! I guess I am glad to start in the old lady age group...so no young males come crushing past me in the swim.
