hey gang,

got one for ya..

usually during my swims I have a set of goggles for the pool - i dont race in these..

i was trying a new set of Tyr googles during a OWS this morning, seeing if they'd be good for my race next weekend, when they "fell apart" ..

My question is: Should this happen during an actual race, do I let the googles go and keep racing, or, like today (which really messed up my stroke) carry them with till the end of the swim ?

what messed up my swim was more the motion of my hands and all the water in my face/eyes..

what would you do ?

You mean, like totally break into pieces? If it's a pool, I'd leave them and get them later If it's a lake/ocean, I'd grab what I could grab and then stick them in the neck of my wetsuit, or down my shorts, to carry them out of the water

not into pieces, more like the "tightner clasp" fell away and ther was nothing to hold the side of strap to the goggles.. kinda of a bummer ..

i have an older pair of the same googles, i'll try to mcgroober something ..

I wouldn't just let them go.  There's enough garbage that makes it into our lakes.

Like the other poster mentioned; throw them in your swim suit somehow so you don't have to hold them while trying to swim.

Some people wear an extra pair of goggles around their neck for this very reason.

Since I am dang slow anyway, I'd probably stop a minute in the race and try to tie a knot in the strap if it was the clasp thing that came off. I've seen folks wear two pairs, and also two swim caps with straps in between. I wear contacts, tho', so it's pretty important to me to keep goggles on my face.
