Spirit of Racine Half Ironman Triathlon
2009-07-19
Racine, Wisconsin
United States
HFP Racing
56+F / 13C
Overcast

Triathlon - 1/2 Ironman
Total Time = 5h 00m 18s
Overall Rank = 385/1207
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 35/80

Pre-race routine:

Wake up, drop duece, enjoy PB + J + Nanner sammich. Did a whole bunch of strecthing, found some donks and headed down to the water.

Event warmup:

My warmup consisted of a 1 mile walk down the beach

   Swim

Comments:

The swim seemed short, but it also seemed short last year too... oh well. The water was definately warmer than last year which was nice. Some spots were very shallow which at points made it difficult to swim when your hands are touching the bottom of the lake.

The people around me were zig zagging all over the place. I would look up and there would be no one around me and then all of the sudden I would have people on each side of me, this happened about 5 or 6 times..

What would you do differently?:

try to find a better draft.

T1

Comments:

all went smotth, the wetsuit was tricky as usual, but the sock went on quikc and off I went.

What would you do differently?:

nothing

   Bike

Comments:

fairly flat witha few very small elevation rollers. Some of the roads were really rough.... I got passed by a couple of packs of riders who were drafting really bad.

What would you do differently?:

nothing

T2

Comments:

smooth as silk baby

What would you do differently?:

not a damn thing

   Run

Comments:

Well, now everything got fun. as I started out of transition, I worried how long my knee would hold out and how long I would have to run for the sharp pains to diminish. To my surprise, no pain, just comfort. I hammered as much as I could and damn near cleared 2 hours. I ran with Scotty for a while, and then Deanna. I cheered on the Donks and TriWI folk as they passed. I was giving Djdavey a hard time about catching up to me and to my surprise, he almost did just before the finish!

What would you do differently?:

speed work and weight loss.

Post race

Warm down:

Straight to the med tent for ice for my kinda sore (but not bad) knee

Event comments:

even though I said it was too easy, it is still going to be an annual race for me as to compare my progress year to year.

"this race is too easy"?  WHAT!!  Oh wait, you can hammer cuz you love hills and this bike course was a piece of cake to you.  Great job out there.  Glad I was able to see you for at least one minute in the a.m.  Took me a minute to recognize you cuz you didn't have your helmet on

I only say too easy because I shouldn't be anywhere near that fast.  Great seeing (and racing) with you though!

Let me know when you want to ride some hills.  You can even bring that husband of yours!
