OKay... I think it's because I've been out of the pool for 2 weeks (recovering from LASIK), but I am poking around for motivation and new goals. I'm doing the Danskin this summer and my goal is to get as close to my 1:32 time from 5 years ago. The catch is that I'm doing the race with my partner and waiting for her during transitions. We're actually similarly paced for the bike and run, so I might just have an extra 15 minutes after the swim.... at any rate, the competitor in me wants to push myself and pick a 2nd event for this summer. Should I do a 2nd sprint tri and aim for my 1:32 goal? Or should I try my first Olympic? I can swim forever and that's no problem, can easily bike the distance (I commute 1-2 days a week to work every summer, 17 miles one way), but the run... I've worked up to 3 miles in about 35 minutes. Is it reasonable to try to double that to 6.2 miles by June 26th?
~Looking for feedback~

first off, congrats on the Lasik. Don't you just love it?! Now for your real question.....I'm signed up for a half dozen races so naturally I'd say do as many as you think you can! If you only sign up for one and then change your mind, you'll be bummed to find something you want is already sold out. At least they go fast around here, I bet they do in your area too. I've signed up for an Oly and can barely do a 3 mile run right now. I think you'll be fine.

Kim,

No problem. I'm doing my first tri May 23rd. Oly distance. I'm up to 4 miles @ similar pace. Not really worried about getting faster. Just keeping my current pace and adding the distance. Search Jeff Galloway. He is a running coach and has a very reasonable and doable 5k/10k program (free) under the training section. Go for the oly. You can do it. :-)

Thanks guys... my wondering if I can do it led me to run 5.5 miles this morning in 1 hour 1 minute. It was hard, but I could do it. I have 12 weeks to add another mile and get stronger. I may go for it!

Do it Kim! After your run - no problem adding the extra mile.
