Does anyone run without socks? It seems like there would be benefits to doing so but I afraid of chewing up the backs of my heels.

I am just taking step to to that. I had my first tri (though it ended up as a du because of weather) last Sunday. I changed my socks after the bike because they were soaked and then running in a downpour made my feet feel like they weighed an extra 10 pounds each.

I just came back from the running store where I picked up a pair of K-Swiss tri shoes that have bottom vents. Even if it's not raining I like to pour water over my head in a race and some always ends up in my shoes. I am going to put body glide on the heels and tongues when I set up my transition area next time.

I bike with no socks, so my shoes are soaked by the time I get to T2.  Then, I love the feeling of the warm dry socks

I run short distances without socks, long distances with...

I race without, so I want my feet used to going without, but I don't want to completely wreck them on my longer runs. (Which I have not had in a while... I need to work on that.)

I am also a Gold Bond freak... as one of my teammates used to say, "Nothing puts a spring in your step like the ball-buzz."

He was kind of weird.

I'm still pretty new to tri's, and am running in my "pre-tri" sneakers.  So while they are ok for me, they aren't the best to be really running in.  When I upgrade to proper running shoes that fit a little better, I'll start going without socks for the run.  But I do bike without socks.

I both bike and run without socks. Vaseline and body glide.

I vas' the rims of the running shoes and body glide my feet (pre-swim heavy on the body glide). Have a small towel in Transition to wipe off sand and grit if need be and then go sock less the entire day.

You will rip up your feet some - just treat them with some TLC and go slow. DON'T GO SOCKLESS ON RACE DAY FOR THE FIRST TIME ..... not speaking from experience but a local racer was talking about it in the bike store a few months ago..... he stopped part way through the 10K and ended up DNF-ing

The biggest two advantages of sockless runs are faster transition times and if you use water to cool yourself your feet don't get that soggy sock feeling!

Good luck!

I had never run without socks till the day of my Tri. I was sooooo amped up when I got to the transition I just said eff it and didnt want to spend the extra seconds trying to put socks on my wet feet.

I didnt have any problems and now I actually like running without socks.
