Subject: Can I get new keys made for a yakima rack?

I don't want to order them, but I just bought a full yakima rack, and a full thule rack, with 4 trays bike trays, 4 bars, 8 feet, attachments, and 2 windscreens.

$50 for ALL.  AMAZING!!!!

Problem is: no keys- oops, didn't check that before hand.  Might be able to go back and get them from the lady, not sure.

What do I do?

Thanks-

if the items are unlocked, you can buy new lock cylinders and insert them in the items...

the new cylinders come with a eject key blank that pulls the lock cylinder out of the item.

if the items are already locked...SOL my friend

You don't have them "made" per se. There is a code on them, using the code you can order replacement keys from somewhere online, yakima direct, or a local Rack or Bike Shop.

They are ~$5 per key. Here is one place:

You can also buy the blank "puller" key for around the same $5 but they have to be unlocked first for that to work. Just order the keys by the code you need and you'll be good to go. $5 isn't too hard to spend

even if they're locked?  Isn't the code inside?

thanks for the help!

I'm not a huge Yakima guy, I use mostly Thule. Looks like you might have to take to do one of the following:

1) Take it to a locksmith and them pick one
2) Get the key or at least key code from the lady

From Yakima's Website
Q: I lost my key, how can I get another?

A: If you know your key number, your dealer can order replacements for you, or you can contact us directly at (888) 925-4621 (M-F, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., PST). If you do not know your key number, but you did send in your key club registration, we can look it up for you. Still not the answer for your situation? Well, if your locks were produced after 1992, and your key number is still a mystery, it can be found on the side or back of the lock "core" itself. Accessing it will require a locksmith to pick one lock, and a control key (the "gold blank" key that comes with every set of locks) to remove the core from the housing. Once the lock core is out, you can read the number and order new keys.

I am not familiar with the locks at all, but I do have access to key blanks and key code programs. If the locks have a letter/number code on them, message me and I will see if I can get you a spare key or 2. Anyone know if these keys have cuts on both sides or just1?

I know it's an old thread but a problem could be new to someone who would just google this and would stumble upon this thread so: (UPDATE)

Best (cheapest) place for Thule or Yakima replacement keys!
On the net where you bid for things, ebay, name is 101LOCK !
2 keys (two!) with shipping around $6.5
They also have change keys for almost half of that amount.

Hope I helped somebody!
