Well - can't find the thread about hitting the ground sideways whle nicely clipped into those clipless pedals. In fact was feeling a bit smug - "Gee here I am on a brand new bike not having ridden for years and with these nice clipless pedals - and hey - I'm not falling like these folks."

Yesteray came sailing into my drive and took my right foot out per usual - was all engrossed in my new cyclocomputer and forgot to release my left foot - leaned nicely to my left - and well---- I've got a nice strawberry on the left arm and a lump on the hip :-( [Must remember to come into the drive closer to the lawn - the middle of the drive is not so soft.] Anyway - is there a shirt or something for this event?

Welcome! That was my post last time, but I get the impression that it has been out here lots of times!

reminds me of the last time i went skiing- didn't fall for two days, then fell just standing there waiting on a friend. who knows why we do the things we do!

Congratulations on your initiation. I too have the left sided body injuries, which are healing, albeit slowly.

Aim for the lawn!

Last October doing the MS Tour 150 I pulled up to a rest station and pulled out my right shoe and leaned left and the next thing I new I was laying down in the street with a crowd watching, my comment was it sure feels good to be lying down. got up grabbed a snack and headed out , didn't stay around that rest stop.

I've never riden a road bike. I've mountain biked since I started riding 15 years ago. But I've had a similar expereince. I was on a trail shortly after installing clipless pedals. Truns out I had them adjust way to tight for trail riding. I hit a root that stopped my forward motion in a tricky section, went to unclip but couldn't get my foot out.

The humiliating part wasn't so much that I fell. It was that I was laying on my side and I still couldn't get out of my pedal. My friend was laughing too hard to help me. The bastard.

i still want to get a shirt that reads "if you can read this - please pick me up and put me back on my bike"   :-

Hahaha, that would go so well on the side panel of a jersey Lara
can you take the credit for that one?

In mountain biking, you know that a fallen rider is ok if the first words out of his mouth are "Is my bike ok?" I don't know why I thought of that. I'll be shutting up now. :-O

Omigosh - no Ellen - I didn't rip those cute little shorts - guesdd I was just meant to wear them My wife asked if it hurt when I fell - I told her not right away - I was too busy looking around to see if my neighbors saw me - the guy next door is a cycling mad man he's got a lifetime 50000+ plus miles. Maybe I'll check into getting shirt with Laura's quote and a patch that says, "Timberrr Club!"

I know people who mountain bike with clipless pedals, and I think it might stand up in court as grounds for an insanity defense. I can fall off a mountain bike with absolutely no extra help!

Just wait until you fall and take out a few other cyclists ....

hello everyone...well, I finally joined the club yesterday. After my 24 mile ride, I took my right foot off the clipless pedal but for some reason forgot to take off the left. Then i leaned a little to the left and down I went. A guy came up and asked if I was alright but the only thing I was worried about was my bike. i really like the shirt idea...that is great :-)

I've never ridden my mountain bike or road bike with anything BUT clipless.  I would not know what to do without them.  So you mean I can kill my husband and blame it on the pedals??

I fell again today (on my right side this time) with those pedals. I am a bit afraid to get back on the bike!

Hey Cathy - it's just your body trying to balance out - right side was jealous. I put my bike back on the trainer and practifed in and out of the clipless. My madman cycle buddy says it takes 700 in and outs to get it imprinted on the brain. Think?

Maybe I will get one of the kids in our computer graphics major to design a Timberrr patch!

No one has ever accused me of being sane. But once you are used to them, clipless pedals are the only way to ride XC mountian bikes. I think DH bikes don't use them. And I don't blame them, the freaks.
