Good to hear someone else in regards to Sandestin Tri.  I started a thread a while back but never really got much interest.  I'm looking forward to the race and I'm expecting a hot day.

What time?  Where would you want to meet?  I wouldn't mind riding it this weekend to get a little familiarity with it.  Just let me know...

Keeping my fingers crossed that they don't cancel.  Looks as though Ana will be making landfall Saturday.  Any idea on when they would cancel if they were going to do so?

You and me both.  Would not want to run then ride then run some more.  I emailed them yesterday and they said it is not being canceled at this point.  I'll keep checking...

Are you staying down there fri night?
I got a room at the sandestin hilton. 10 bones more than the one they are advertizing onthe web page, and it's right there at the start.

Wow!  You got the spot!  I'm staying at a family property off Holiday Isle.  My parents will be in town.  So, I'll combine visiting w/ them and they will be there to watch the Tri.  Easier than driving from PCB.  Lets just hope the weather holds out and should be a good time.

Saturday morning looks to be a little choppy with swells between 1-2 feet. Tough swim, but I hope they don't cancel it.

I too saw the swell report.  Hopefully, they won't cancel due to that.  You think they would have posted it by now if they were for those coming from out of town.  This is the link they sent me to look at when I questioned if canceled...

hopefully no cancell and no run bike run.
The swim is my best event, and the run easily my worst.
I can see them saying ... no swim, run the 4 then bike then run the 4 again... not sure what i would do... Well I know what I would do, but it would be horribly slow.

Unless something comes in and stirs things up I'm guessing we're good to go.  The water looks pretty calm in the morning when I went by.  We may get a bit of rain but overall, I'm seeing no reason for them to cancel or change anything.  Keeping fingers crossed...I don't want to run bike run either.

I think we're going to be fine. I would cry if we did run-bike-run. The run is my strongest event, but I've focused my training on swimming for this race.

I hope everyone had a good day. I went out a little hot on the bike and did not leave much for the run. Otherwise it was a pretty good day. I left Sandestin shortly after I finished (Daddy dutied called). Does anyone know if the official results are posted anywhere?

I swallowed too much salt water but everything else went well.  I should have pushed harder on the bike in the beginning b/c that headwind coming back slowed me.  The run went fast and I was able to finish strong.  I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Emailed the director in regards to photos and results.  Will let you know when I get an answer...

I was happy with my swim and run, but the bike killed me. I came out way too strong and then completely lost it fighting that headwind. From about mile 13 until I could see the dismount line it was all I could do to turn the pedals.

Here are the results:

Dang.  Was the swim long?  A half mile shouldn't have taken the majority of the field more than 15'....I see an awful lot of high teens and 20-something's in there.

Also, LOVE to see the number of folks who got penalties for wearing headsets on the run.  SWEET!

Not that the swim was long...I had a jellyfish decide to tag along...got stuck in my watchband and stung my wrist the whole time...I couldn't get it out!!

Also, the time chip marker wasn't until you got out of the water, up the beach, and past the shower.  That may have played into sum of the times...

I was one of the yahoos that got penalized for headsets...
I was not wearing a headset.
I had on my itouch with external speakers... no headphones.
I asked about it afterward... they didn't care.

on another note, happily I came in 4th in my div on the swim, including a stop to look for my Road ID, which came off about halfway thru the swim..... I found it. YAY!

On a sad note i did almost choke to death on part of my shot block package I tried to bite off during the bike.  hacking and spitting trying to get it out didn't seem to work so I tried to wash it down with most of a bottle of water, It was like gargling with razors.

I sucked on the run, need to run more.

That sucks!  I have never used headphones or ipod on a bike or run in competition.  I've never even tried to ride w/ music...I like to hear the cars coming...before they hit me.

Your second photo wouldn't open...maybe just my computer...just saying.

Any plans to come to Mexico Beach for the Beachblast Triathlon Sept 12th?

My boss will be there....but I'll be in DC at Nations.

Bear, sorry if you took offense to me being happy about all the headset folks.  I guess that is a little crap that you technically were not wearing headphones.  That might be something to write to USAT about.  They should at least clarify for everybody whether they want to consider your set up legal.  I would be OK with people using the external speakers...it's just as safe as playing the radio in your car.  Might annoy some of the folks you are racing with but they shouldn't be annoyed for very long unless you happen to be going the exact same pace...which probably wouldn't happen.
