Overall Rank = 3/500

Age Group Rank = 1/57
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4am, had my normal bagel/coffee. On the way to the race I realized I forgot my bike computer dang it!
Event warmup:

Jogged 2 miles and swam ~600 or so.
Swim
  • 07m 36s
  • 482 meters
  • 01m 35s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim felt awful, not sure it was 1:30/100 awful but I could tell I wasn't my normal. The new dots jersey was definitely too baggy for swimming, I hope the new ones are tighter or I won't be wearing it for races...
What would you do differently?:

Swim better and not have such a baggy jersey :)
Transition 1
  • 00m 47s
Comments:

I wore bike socks during the swim and it really helped on my T1. No socks to fumble with just slipped my shoes on, glasses, helmet and ran out. I tightened up the bike shoes once I was already riding.
What would you do differently?:

Need to get the flying mount down where shoes are already clipped in
Bike
  • 34m 5s
  • 14 miles
  • 24.65 mile/hr
Comments:

Had a cross wind for the majority of the course but it turned into a head/tail wind for small portions. I was riding blind without my bike computer so I held back quite a bit. From feel I think I held ~290W average.
What would you do differently?:

I took my feet out of my shoes way too early to prepare for the dismount. I pedaled the last 0.5-0.75mi with my feet over my shoes because I thought the turn was coming up sooner than it did. At least I didn't miss the turn this time :)
Transition 2
  • 00m 25s
Comments:

They actually didn't record my T2 time but it was 20-30s so I picked a time in the middle. No problems with the flying dismount, racked bike, helmet off and grabbed hat which has my forerunner/racebelt. I started the forerunner right as I was leaving T2, realized when I got past mile 1 that I must have double hit the button and the garmin wasn't running. Today was not my day for electronics...
What would you do differently?:

Don't start/stop the garmin, start only!
Run
  • 22m 51s
  • 3.3 miles
  • 06m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

I knew that I'd have trouble with my speed in this race. I could not get my legs turning over fast enough. Good news is I settled in at ~7/mi and I could have held it for much much longer. Bad news is my speed sucks.
What would you do differently?:

Run fast would be nice. I plan on getting back into my hill training routine with the training group and hitting speed work hard. Hopefully I can turn this run around in time for the Austin Olympic in Sept.

Event comments:

Was a very well put on race and I will definitely do it again if it fits into next years schedule. I was pleased with my race... was my first ever official 24+mph bike split! Not that I didn't know it already but it really showed that my run has been dragging and I need to step it up during speed work. Thanks to all the volunteers for helping out!

Great race and nice speed on the bike!  I think the run was a little slower than expected for everyone (myself included); usually you'll see a lot more sub-7:00 average pace but only 8 or 9 in the entire race.
