I know we have a meeting Sat before the race but how do they run the swim? Is it a snake swim
switching lanes or what? They have the header across the entire pool currently for the swim team so I'm not sure I'll get another 50m practice in

Yes, it is a snake swim. Even number son one side and odd numbers on the other.

So you can only swim if you are a male?
I don't understand I am confused.

I am saying that if your bib number is odd you will line up on one side of the pool and if you bid number is even you will be on the other side of the pool. The bids will be seeded by swim times. The pool has 8 lanes and is a 50m pool. You will snake swim up and down 4 lanes then exit the pool. Does that make sense now?

Bummer about the injury meh. I am nursing a couple of smaller injuries but I am still hoping to be able to race albeit at a slower pace on the bike and run. I hope you have a swift recovery and can join us in Richmond next year for some more tri fun.

Umm I was making a joke (apparently not a good one) because you wrote "Even number son...." instead of "Even numbers on..."

Woohooo! 4 days left! First tri for me. Coming all the way from Erie, PA. Spending the week relaxing, easy workouts and dodging all of the germs that my coughing, sneezing, snotting 2nd graders are spreading around! Weather looks to be improving...from rain earlier this week to cloudy with a 20% chance. I'll see all of you slow swimmers at the pool as I am near the 500 mark! Just how long is that uphill?

You probably win for coming the farthest to race. This is a great first tri, hopefully the weather will cooperate. I hope everyone stays healthy this week. I am going to try a slow jog after work and see how my calf likes it. Looking at mapmyride it appears that the hill section is over a mile long. The good news is that after the hill it is pretty flat.

That sounds about right.  The real issue with the hill is that it just seems to keep going when you're in the middle.  It goes up and flattens a little, and then does the same thing again.  Personally, I try to get in a low gear at the beginning and keep a consistent rhythm throughout.  I've seen people get into trouble having to shift halfway through.

Good advice for the hill Artemis. I road it again on Saturday and did just that. Kept in low gear and just tried to find a good cadence and stick with it. I think I was maintaining around 11 mph (wish I was faster). The flat spot is a very short reprieve and then back to the grind. Slow and steady wins finishes the race.

I'll be driving about 3.5 hrs. Never ridden the course before.  Hope I get a chance to check out that hill on Saturday.  Weather's looking good at least!

Congratulations to all the first timers. It is a great first tri. I really enjoyed it too even though my times were slower than last year due to injury and lack of training. Oh and the bike crash on Salisbury Rd didn't help things either. I hope none of you saw it, it was so embarrasing. I will give all the details on my RR after the results come out. Anyway, I am alive and was able to finish the bike and run so I can't complain too much.

I was looking for you verga, maybe we'll see you in Richmond next yearSmile. Now it is time for me to take a break and let everything heal.

Great race, great people, gorgeous day.  My bike time was just as horribly slow as I expected but otherwise I'm pretty happy with my results.  I'll def. consider going back next year!
