There are some good parallels between golf and triathlons.

I agree.  To me, both are sports where it's just you and the course.

Sure, you compete at both sports, but I think what drives the majority of the people is the challenge to beat themselves, not other people.  whether it's improving your bike speed or hitting your irons better.  it's ultimately just you, your mind, and the course.  and what keeps them going back despite all the bad days is the overwhelming desire to improve.

Needless to say my friends just laugh at me for not golfing anymore but I would rather ride or run or swim to be honest with you.  I have much better ways to spend 6 hours on a weekend!

x2 on this one.  all my friends think i've lost my mind for declining their offers to play golf twice a weekend.  that's alright though, they're all getting fatter when i'm getting skinnier, and i still take their money when i do play.

Love golf and was carrying a 12 handicap last year hoping to get it down this year. Since I've started s/b/r, golf has really taken a back seat to my training. I miss golf, but have found a new calling in s/b/r.

I also find that from a technical aspect, swimming is like the swing, and the lap tank has become my new "range". Much like my golf game, where I was always tweeking during a round, there I was in the middle of my oly race yesterday tweeking with my swim technique!! I gotta try and stop that!

So for me, I've found a new summer sport I love, but there will never be anything like the feeling and look of a well executed approach shot in to a tight pin!!!
