Subject: My shoes shrunk. How to fix them?
So I went to visit my family in FL and brought along my brand new running shoes. During my stay at my sisters house her cat decided to pee in my gym bag for the last two days of my trip. When I went to pack I had a bag full off pee. So instead of throwing away my $110 shoes that I had just bought I decided to try and get the smell out. This took many hours of handwashing them and drying them. I did pack the insides in hopes that they wouldnt shrink but they did. I have been wearing them around to try and stretch them out that little bit more I need to be comfortable but am having no luck. Any suggestions on how to get my perfect fitting shoes back to normal? Thanks a lot BTers

Get them wet and wear 'em dry.

I notice from your avatar pix you are in the military?  In the Army they we used to do that with our boots.  Worked well with boots/leather.  I have no idea it that will work on your Nike's....but it's worth a try.

Yeah thats how I used to break in all my old leathers. I used to walk back in forth in my bath tub wearing my boots drinking beer in order to get them broken in faster. These are sauconys so I dont know how well that will work. But walking around in my bathtub again drinking beer sure sounds like fun.

Gosh. I've washed shoes in the washing machine (on the delicate no spin cycle) and didn't have them shrink.

That's so weird they shrunk.

Anyways, your story reminds me why I don't need an animal living in my house.

Good luck!

I have no advice to offer, but I just wanted to say that the visual of someone walking back and forth in a filled bathtub wearing shoes and drinking beer is making me chuckle.

"What the he11 do you think you're doing????"
"Duh, stretching my shoes out!"

Get your sister's cat back, have it pee all over your feet, wash and dry them for hours and hours to get the smell out, they perhaps they will shrink as well, then your shoes will fit?

Sir,
Reminds me of the statement, 'don't know how to pour cat pi$$ out of a boot'...Sorry, had to do it.

I used to buy Saucony exclusively but had a pair that did this while running in the rain. In NE Ohio it always rained. I don't know how they are now, but those shoes seemed to take days to break in. After the rain shrink I just wore them with socks and suffered till they were cooked. Miserable, but cost effective. I buy Mizuno now and can run in them out of the box. I know this doesn't help your current state, but for consideration next time.

There's device called a "shoe stretcher", you should be able to find it at home depot near the stud/beam stretchers.

Its actually quite comical to see someone doing it. I used to have a picture of me standing in my bathtub with a cooler on the toilet in my PT shorts and boots. Good times. But I dont think I want to make the journey back to FL so I can kidnap my sisters cat and have it pee on me (thats not my thing). I dont think I want to see that cat ever again... or smell cat pee ever again.

I was in the Infantry back in the day. Our drill sgt made us shower in our boots. I think he had problems. Deep problems.

You mean one of these?

Home Depot doesn't have them but Amazon.com does.
