Subject: Ran my first (almost) half mary last evening...

I went for a few drinks after work.  After awhile, everyone had gone home and I realized that I had way too much to drink to drive safely.  I thought about calling a cab, then said to myself, "Screw it!  I'm a triathlete!  Lets hoof it!!"

Had to walk the first 45 minutes so i didnt hurl.  Then I ran for an hour or so.  It got dark during this time.  Walked the last 30 minutes or so to get home.

I used the route tracker and scored it at a shade over 12 miles.  Did it in blue jeans.  Longest previous run this year was about 5 miles.  (I've had foot problems most of the last 4 years).  Surprisingly, my feet were fine with this run.

I had to make the "bike ride of shame" this morning to go collect my car.

Anyway, thought some folks might get a kick out of how crazy we triathletes are (or at least this one is).

When I was younger (much younger), my idea of training was to go bar hopping on my bicycle.

Glad you had a self-realization and didn't drive.  Good for you.  My concern was if you would have stumbled and lost your balance and then took a header with no one around to help you, especially since it got dark.  Glad you made it home okay.

If anything, call a friend or a cab for safety's sake.  It's not worth getting injured.

No shame in that. I know you're just kidding, but I wish more people would be willing to not drive after they've been drinking. Glad you made it home safely. Now, about that running in the dark without a piece of reflective clothing...

What do people do when they leave their car at the bars overnight? Do they pray it is not towed the next morning??

I asked the bar tender if it was ok to leave the car overnight.  She said yes.  So I didnt worry about being towed.  But I was worried about break-in.  Turned out, it was fine.

As for running in the dark.  During that time, I was on pathways and sidewalks.  Almost none on the road side.  I chose my route to avoid roads for a substantial stretch.
