Sunny
Total Time = 56m 34s
Overall Rank = 9/217
Age Group = M 50-54
Age Group Rank = 1/6
Pre-race routine:

Overslept by a half hour, downed my coffee and bagels, showered, dressed, fifteen-minute drive to race site. Still got an end spot on the second rack from the bike exit/entry.
Event warmup:

Rained last nght so I grabbed a broom and spread out the puddles that had formed in the concrete parking lot/transition area. Transition area was bone dry by the time the race started!

No other warmup. Race was a half hour late getting started, with the time-trial start I didn't start until eight minutes after that.
Swim
  • 03m 22s
  • 164 yards
  • 02m 03s / 100 yards
Comments:

2:57 for actual swim, "official" time also includes the run from the pool to the timiing mats at T1.

Not bad, little faster than last year. Good seeding, I neither caught nor was caught by another swimmer.
What would you do differently?:

Definitely my limiter, not so noticeable in a short swim like this. I really need to figure out what to do about it.
Transition 1
  • 00m 25s
Comments:

Knocked my helmet off the bike and it went flying. Recoovered it, got it on, and was off. Still, cost some seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Not knock the helmet off, dummy!
Bike
  • 36m 45s
  • 14 miles
  • 22.86 mile/hr
Comments:

Took some time to get into shoes, worse I've done this month, but then I was off. I was 47th to start the swim, but i bet I passed 30 people on the bike. Mostly 23-25 mph except for a one-mile stretch on the I-49 Service Road that is in terrible shape, limited to 21-22mph.

Several races this month where I averaged 22.9mph, can't break through to 23. ;^).
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Fast as the road allowed.
Transition 2
  • 00m 34s
Comments:

Nice dismount, run, and rack. Had a little trouble getting into shoes though.
What would you do differently?:

Get the shoes on on the first try. Still, not too bad.
Run
  • 15m 26s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

By this time the sun had burned through the fog and thin clouds, and it was hot and humid. Last week's drier air had gone away, replaced by the soup again.

Pretty steady effort, I even passed three or four more people, including a half-naked guy wearing a Speedo who really should not have been. Dude, if you're going to rock the Speedo, ROCK THE SPEEDO! Don't let some old bald fat guy (me) pass you on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Wait until late fall, but then my T2 time would really suck. Still 20-30 seconds faster per mile than I was earlier this month.
Post race
Warm down:

Met the twins at the finish, walked around, drank, ate, looked at results, waited for Dylan, then Angel to finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Sucky swim, hot and humid run.

Still, TOP TEN finish, first time ever, ninth place overall. Also beat our friend Lawrence for the first time ever. He's such a nice guy, was the first one to congratulate me. This is the only type race I can do this, disproportionately short swim and equally disproportionately long bike. Not complaining, though.

Event comments:

Fun little race, handled the 200+ participants well, nice amenities.

Great job bear!!!  This is the first I've ever heard of a tri with <200 yd swim, but IMO that's not why you snagged top ten.  It was this:

Rained last nght so I grabbed a broom and spread out the puddles that had formed in the concrete parking lot/transition area. Transition area was bone dry by the time the race started!

Guy like that had it coming.

Congratulations all around.

0:25 T1?  Were you napping?

You are really coming along with the swimming! Congrats, FOP Bear!

Nice job overall.  Next time don't knock your helmet over!

And (including a half-naked guy wearing a Speedo) maybe a Speedo will get you into 8th place.
