Funny.. If you were part of a group of 3 women on the slight hill going out of transition, then I remember you cheering and yelling out names.  It was actually really cool and made me laugh for about 10 minutes since that group was going bonkers for people..   If it wasn't you, I still thank you for cheering.. It kept the mood light and easy to compete..

I liked those nuts on Erie Blvd with the cowbells.

"Bob needs more cowbell!"

First tri ever done! Was freaking out the night before about how cold the water was but I managed to finish the swim in a decent time (37 mins). Finished overall in 5:28--my legs are still pretty sore today.

Gkeane- Hahaha!! That was us!! I was really shy at first, but then I figured what the heck and just started trying to catch as many names as possible and yelling. I'm glad it made you laugh. It was a blast!!

The cowbell people were hilarious!! They were chasing people at the end.

It was pretty funny though. The volunteer in front of me said, "Do you realize how intently you have to stare at these peoples crotches to find their names?" Hahahaha. It's true though and it made me giggle.

I would have to say I liked the the aid station that had everyone dressed like cows.  I asked then if they "Got Milk"  unfortunatly none did.  Great volunteers throughout the course.

I would like to thank all the volunteers your guys were wonderful the encouragement was well appreciated.  I especially liked the chalk on the road at about mile 8 of the run "This sucks, Keep running"
I would also like the Syracuse Police Department, you guys did great controlling the traffic on erie.

Pictures via brightroom are up, people probably got emails already. Some of the pics are good and I want to get some (so expensive). My wife was there and got alot of good pre/swim/finish pics, but obviously no bike ones which brightroom got a few good ones...damn them :@)

Most of the pictures of me stink.  They did get one good pic on the bike of me going up the hill in the fog and mist.  It looks like one of those motivational pictures.

It was great to race in my own back yard, that's for sure. Even though I rode the course almost every Saturday morning for a couple of months this summer, it was reassuring to read the course descriptions that a couple of you took the time to post and see that someone else had the same take I did.

I thought I had no chance at a HIM PR based on the bike, but somehow I rode it 10-15 min faster on Sunday than I had ever rode in training.

Swim 35:28 - I was out in the next-to-last wave, kind of pain waiting all that time, but what with 4 port-o-potty trips, time went by pretty quickly. The water was cold, but otherwise conditions were great - no weeds, wind, waves to speak of.

T1 3:54 - Lots slower than a typical T1, but it was a long way from the water to the bike. I left T1 with 4 gels, but left my Power and Clif bars on my mat rather than stuffing them in my tri tank pockets. Oops.

Bike 3:00:03 - The bike is not my strong suit and the early climbing had me nervous. Somehow, I managed to ride 10-15 min faster than I had in training all summer. Lack of wind, cool temps helped. Grabbed every gel and bar that I could on the bike, given that I left about 135 grams of carbs back in transition.

T2 2:11 - It was a slippery, muddy downhill running back in with the bike, but I didn't see anyone go down, fortunately. Legs didn't feel too bad.

Run 1:43:08 - Started fast and faded a bit, but picked up the pace for the last 1.1 compared to the previous 4. Not my best HIM run, but only off by a couple of minutes. The course was like running through a full parking lot in which all the cars had been left running all day. The taste of car exhaust is unpleasant.

5:24:44 A PR for me at this distance, which I really didn’t think was going to be possible with this bike course.

Volunteers were great, law enforcement was great with traffic control. Post-race was just OK. I would have liked some signs - I had no idea where to go to find anything after I crossed the finish line - bathroom, dry clothes - they were all a mystery unless I asked someone.

I saw one BTer in a singlet early in the run, congrats to all of you on a successful race! I hope that everyone enjoyed themselves enough to come back to Syracuse next year, assuming there is a next year.

A question about ironman store stuff. I did buy some stuff at the expo and when I think back, I did want to get a shirt as well. Do you know if they typically put the stuff online via ironman.com as do they with other IM/HIM? I checked and while they do have the syracuse link, nothing is up. Any ideas? Maybe they will later on?

Hi all,

Glad to see everyone had a great race.  This is my first year doing Tri's and I was crazy ambitious enough to sign up for this HIM.  I am truly humbled by the experience and learned a lot.  I was able to handle the swim, albeit slowly but felt good afterward.  The bike portion totally killed my legs, being from NYC, I have never ridden hills like those in Syracuse and so many of them.  By the time I reached T2, my legs had cramped close to a dozen times.  I did make it out of T2 and attempted the run, but the constant cramping made me throw in the towel before I reached the mile 2 marker.  My first DNF
I will definitely be back to conquer the Syracuse course another time.

A question to those that have done IM Lake Placid, how does the hills at Lake Placid compares to those in Syracuse?

I volunteered at LP and signed up for next year, not knowing what I was getting into.  After Syracuse I'm starting to have second thoughts...  but now I know to better prepare myself and will be doing as much as I can to get my bike training up to par.

Any info would be very much appreciated.

Chi

I echo everyone's kudos to the volunteers. They kept me going. As did the chalk messages on the run. I especially liked the "Grand Slam" comment outside of Denny's.

Kudos to the city of Syracuse for great hospitality. We travelled from Wisconsin and were treated great by everyone. I had some great conversations with fellow competitors on the run. Thanks to all of you that got me through.

It was my first HIM and it took me until Thursday to stop hobbling like a cowboy!

My goal was 7 hours. I finished in 6:38!

BTW, i was the S L O W guy on the fast looking bike. i was probably the only one wearing tights & an orange jacket on the bike.

I'm pretty sure most of you would recognize me as i about 2500 people passed me on the bike...the other 500 started ahead of me! Wink

What a fun race. Thanks again to everyone for making it a wonderful, memorable experience!

Does anyone know where to find the finisher's certificate. I saw it came through email but I deleted it before printing it out. If you have the email they sent out can you forward it to me.

Good luck figuring out how to link your name to it though.
