I cleaned my bike for about 3 hours today, as well as installed a wheelbuilder disc for my final tri of the season next weekend. While thinking about all this effort to be "aero," I started thinking about trying to make my own aero bottle.

I went to the hardware store, picked up 3/8" hose, and a plastic fitting. I then ripped the top off a free water bottle from a past tri. I cut the inner housing under the cap off with a knife. The fitting is air tight into the lid of the bottle. And I fed the hose through the fitting, all the way to the bottom of the bottle. I installed a camelback mouth piece (I never use it anymore) to keep the liquid in the tube (less sucking) and cut about an eraser sized hole in the top of the lid to let air in (easier to drink). I tested it out, and nothing splashed out of the bottle. What do you guys think? Total cost was $1.81 and I don't have to reach down for my water bottle anymore.

How short is your race? This would work for a sprint and maybe olympic depending on how much fluid you take it. Its clean. On long races/rides its worthless because you would not be able to modify bottles while riding.

With similar innovations with long tubes/straws, be careful stuff grows real quick in them and they are very hard to clean. Had some buddies that attribute their gut rot to these. Just something to consider.
