"Why do you want to use Max HR?"

I'm excited b/c I know I'm about to learn something! For yrs now, I've plugged in the "22 - age" formula into my heart-rate-monitor & trained from that (eg, 60% of MHR for recovery workouts). Is this wrong?

Very much so ............

I'm 38.  Before I was on my medication for A-Fib I could easily hit 203 in all out efforts for max HR.

There is an entire 20+ page thread on the topic.  Surprised no one has linked it in yet.

That formula pretty much sucks. According to it, my max HR would be 179 when that's actually my run LT. Don't use one. If you really want to know your max HR, do a field test. But better, do a LT test and use that for your training zones.

Yes, it is wrong.  The formula you reference, for example, gives me a Max HR of -16 BPM.  Tongue out
