Sunny
Total Time = 1h 29m 40s
Overall Rank = 106/279
Age Group = M35-40
Age Group Rank = 14/25
Pre-race routine:

set up transition. ate some gu chomps about 30 min. before start. tried to keep warm.
Event warmup:

Did some stretching. Didn't have time to get on the bike, was not going to do a swim warm up. Didn't wear a wetsuit for the swim.
Swim
  • 08m 7s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

Had some difficulty at first. Temp of water took my breath away and had some problems maintaining a rythm. I should probably start further to edge of swim start. Had some problems with traffic.

Sighting was made difficult because of fog on water. and fog in goggles. did better on the parallel stretch, but sighted on the wrong object coming back in. veered fairly far off course. had to swim back onto course.
What would you do differently?:

probably should have worn a wet suit. but overall, I think that I did well.
Transition 1
  • 03m 9s
Comments:

Um, very cold getting out of water. Had some issues standing and putting my bike shoes on. Ran with bike well, and got onto bike well.
What would you do differently?:

Need to practive T1 transitions. Need to learn how to run to transition.
Bike
  • 50m 10s
  • 14.8 miles
  • 17.70 mile/hr
Comments:

NEED TO PRACTICE GOING UP HILLS. Hills will be the death of me. Overall good bike. Only five minutes faster than last year. I noticed on mile 5 of the bike that I had a slow leak, and instead of stopping to change. Just kept peddaling on. I think I could have done this at the most 5 minutes faster. No real control of bike in aero position. Wobbled around too much due to low air pressure in tire.
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to change a flat and make positively sure tires are properly inflated before race.

Practive going up hills. I live in New England so hills should be a way of life.
Transition 2
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

helmet off good. shoes on. bad. this is exactly the point in the race when I realized that I couldn't feel my feet. Wasn't sure if my running shoes were on or not.

I actually stopped to make sure I had everything right before I left, and ran out of transition. I probably could have gotten this down to 1 min. flat
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 26m 39s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 08m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

best run so far. need to land on front to mid sole instead of landing on heel.
started off with a slow pace, got faster after gregg and mike ran past me. attacked all hills with the exception of the last one.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

stretched a bit, and walked around.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Low air pressure in tires. Also lost the drinking straw from my aero bottle. tried to replace it with some tubing, and couldn't drink from aero position.

Event comments:

Good race. VERY cold in the morning. Should probably move it up later in the day. Not much post race. Some food. Although it's nice to be able to see the other athletes finishing up on the track.
