serendipity - 2009-10-06 6:28 PM Evening teammates!  Just a quick drive-by, 'cause I'm exhausted and need to go to sleep.

Got the house cleaned, the laundry done, and my run accomplished!  3 miles, outside, in the SUNSHINE!  (Did I mention it wasn't raining?)

The doctor said my daughter doesn't have an ear infection, but has inflamed lymph nodes, possibly due to a wisdom tooth.  I think I would have been happier with an ear infection.  Need to find a dentist now.  Has an antibiotic in the meantime to help.  I'm hoping her mood today was due to pain and not just crappy teenage attitude.

My youngest continued his quest to make the first grade teacher as crazy as his kindergarten teacher was by helping himself to her scissors and cutting holes in his pants and shirt.  I am planning to go to the gym tomorrow so I can work off some frustration.

Oh, and the chickpea curry was just okay.  Don't think I would make it again.

Good-night!  Great job with the runs!  We are off to a good start.

Wow...that sux! for you! now you have to go shopping for more clothes!!!

curious....does he watch HGTV and maybe want to be a tailor when he grows up??? or did he recently watch Edward Scissorhands? kids are sooo influential!

so do I dare aske what he did to the kindergarten teacher???

Hi gouhlies! Just thought it was high time I pop in and say hi to my teammates. I did pop in last night, but didn't have time to catch up, and well, I thought I'd post today... um, 20 pages later. What a talkative group! My goal for this month will be tiny--focusing on consistency more than mileage, so just a mere 20 miles for the month. Should be a little hard to reach since I have done NOTHING for a few weeks while my son was out of school and sick, but should be totally reachable, too.

So, hi!

Hey Amy....we have been on a challenge team before I think!? anyways...welcome! wow hope your son is all better now! two weeks is a long time to be sick! if you want a run down on all the past pages, I think we can all help you get caught up so you dont have to spend your time trying to get caught up.

im a team player, ya know!

Yes, we were, I think it was sometime last winter. I kinda took a hiatus from challenges for the summer, but I'm back and needing prodding motivation encouragement to keep going for the winter.

If you'd like to catch me up/do intros, I would love that! I don't see me getting the running done AND catching up on the first 80 or so pages...but I'll try!

I will do a run down tomorrow when I am sitting on my deck in Morro Bay...things will be much clearer then! right now I have sooo much to do to get ready...but I cant seem to get myself off of BT - I blame you all!!! but only because:

glad you are back! and we will have you one running fool by the time you are done with this challenge...hope we dont crazy with the running of mouths...hop on in and join in!

Good-night!  Great job with the runs!  We are off to a good start.

Your kids sound just like mine. My daughter is 13. My son is 7. Second grade, and when we went to the school fun run/fundraiser at the local track a few weeks ago, the principle knows him by name, and his kindergarten teacher asked if he's pulled any more stunts on his second grade teacher like he had on his first grade teacher. And yes, she knew the details. *eek*.

hmmmmm are there any other schools near by? hope he works thru this...is he looking for attention in his own creative way???

I ask...because I used to be a handful too! believe it or not...I was not always this angel I am today! haha

It was probaby because I missed dinner at skrtrnr's house, I got stuck on the turnpike and just wasn't going to make it in time so I went home. Cry

Hope everyone has a great day!!!

I can't say it was ALL Stacie's fault. Maybe only partly hers, she could have met me halfway and delivered dinner. I'd have turned over dessert then, too.

kromanowski - 2009-10-06 9:34 AM Question of the Day: Does anyone else have a mental block when it comes to going beyond a certain distance?  And if you did and have pushed past it how did you do it?

Mine is the 6 mile mark...I am fine running 5 miles, 6 miles I have done once or twice and am reasonably ok but I (mentally) freak out when I think about doing anything more...I have never gone further than six.

GREAT question KATIE.

mine is 26.2.  ive been able to bring myself to contemplate running a full marathon.

last year i ran a half.  and finished w a smile on my face.

and considered what it would be like to 'have to' go another 13.1 miles.

i thought, naw, i dont think i would ever want to do that.

i will do a 1/2 IM before i do a full marathon.  theres just something not 'appealing' about that distance...for me.  (same with a full IM)

and ive decided that im not gonna 'push past it'.

if somewhere internally (for whatever the reason) ive decided a full marathon is not for me, then i figure why 'fight it'.

perhaps there will come a time when that'll change, and im completely open to that.

but for now...im content w trng for halfsies and contemplating a 1/2 IM.

stacieb

Sounds like my sentiments exactly! my brother is an IM...my daughter and niece will be racing in an IM in November...and I have no inkling to do one! very motivational for me to go bike and run...but not those absurdly long distances! not even in perfect conditions and flat course! hey, I too am considering a HIM! is there one half way in between us! what a hoot it would be to race with you! the mileage would zoom by! haha

Could you imagine the chatter from that 2-some on the HIM course?  Might get in trouble for drafting or using radios for communication on the ride

Kansas would work for you guys!

kansas? sounds doable....this is one state I have never visited. and I have lived in 40 of the 52 states! and no, Im not an army brat.

do we follow a yellow brick road??? and should I dress in red sparkly running shoes???

Did somebody say Kansas?  I may be doing that one next summer.  I am waiting to hear back on a possibly scheduling conflict.

hey if we all go to Kansas,

we can each dress up as a character from the WoO.

one thing....I GET THE FLYING MONKEY COSTUME!!!!!

[seriously.  theres a HIM in KANSAS?]

woke up to wind.  started at 3:45 and was NON-STOP.

we have this really big-azz tree right outside our bedroom window.  we've had windy conditions before, i always worry that the tree is gonna fall right through the window.

wind=anxiety=fitful nights sleep.

but....at least the tree didnt fall.  whew!

heading indoors today, no need to risk getting blown off my bike/the road.

4x800 intervals ON TAP.

yippy skippy.

RUN HAPPY and watch out for air-born projectiles.

smiled, danced, smiled more, sang a few songs (sorry to those around me!), made 3 porta potty stops, only walking I did were thru a few of the water stations. My daughter and I finished together hand in hand...both with BIG smiles!

awesome job!!!

thanks Kim! I was soooooooo nervous!

I must have gone to the portapotty at least three times before the race....in a 15 min time span! thank goodness they had LOTS of them! along the run I had to stop three times...dang were there some long lines too! there was one guy who had his garage door opena nd was allowing runners to use the garage bathroom....what a nice guy!

there were people passing out doughnut holes, BACON???!!?? , cookies, mimosas, one home had a keg of beer....plus there were the homes that had the kids set up in the street curb with thier drum sets/keyboards and guitars playing music (not really but goin thru the motions)...there was one home that had a big screen (must have been at least a 72" cuz it was monster size...he had a camera at the finish line....was fun to see the people finishing...but of course we were just wanting to be next to them then~~~

there was one bummer situation...a young girl (20's) on the side of the road...she was less then a mile from the finish...and they were doing cpr on her! 6 medics working frantically on her!!! very sad to think of the family waiting on her....and not having any idea that she was in such grave danger!!!!

When I did my first 10 miler I was standing in the bathroom line when they started the race! So I left the line and as I was running was like no way will I get through this without stopping! a couple was out cheering and had a hose for us to run through and I thanked them...they were like we love all you runners...I asked "enough to let one use your bathroom?" they let me in and I was soooo thankful!
Sorry to hear about the girl....is she ok?

no...she died! and so did another male runner! both were in thier mid 30's. TRAGIC!

serendipity - 2009-10-07 5:17 AM Good morning team!  I woke up this morning, very early, to the sound of - you guessed it - rain.  Although rain may be an understatement.  Deluge might be a better word.  And the roof that we fixed last year is leaking again, so it's raining in my bedroom too.

Off to do some food shopping, then hopping on the trainer and hopefully getting to the gym to start some strength training.  No yoga classes today (it's my day off) but I'm doing a chair yoga presentation at the senior citizen center this evening.  Hoping to get some new students, but if not at least I get a free dinner out of it.

Keep up the great work, team Show us your Ghoulies!

thats awful! hoping it stops soon so you can repair it ONCE and for all! good luck and stay dry Debs!
