so I decided for next year I need to try some new things. my nutrition plan wasn't the best for augusta using all hammer products. I seem to get the same intestinal pain everytime I use endurolytes and after a year of perpetuem and heed, I feel like throwing up when I smell the stuff now! Maybe I'm just on semisolid carbohydrate overload after a long season but.... What else is there out there that everyone loves and relies on? I'm going to try much more experimenting next year

Clif Shot Bloks (strawberry)
GU (chocolate outrage)
Gu20 (raspberry)
Water

Honerable mention: Honey Stinger (fruit punch). OMG those are GOOD. I have a whole case of Shot Bloks to use up first though. Plus the Honey Stingers still come in the old-school packaging. Pretty hard to eat from a jersey pocket. But oooh so good. MMM!

I am very interested in this thread. I too have used Hammer exclusively for my two IM. Both times I had nutrition issues. I thought IMKY was because of heat but it happened again this year at IMWI...not overly hot. I trained with perp, gels and endurolytes but it didn't work on race day...I raced at training pace/effort...I was not "racing". I thought I was keeping it simple but it just didn't work.

Very curious and ready to explore other options.

x2

last week at Redman this is pretty much what I kep it to, other than I was doing Hammer Gels and also a Powerbar.  Good to get accustomed to Gatorade Endurance as that seems to be the product supplied at most events.

I'm really starting to like the GU Chomps.  Mmm Tasty.

I use GU's or PowerBar's electrolyte drink.  They tend to be really easy on the stomach and have enough electrolyte's for me.  I like all the Hammer products, but they seem to complicated for me.  Perpetuam can spoil, gels don't have a lot of electrolytes etc.

I use water + GE + gels, except for one IM run where I wanted bananas and oranges.

Closest I've come to loving any of them was a cold bottle of water on a long hot training ride.  I was dehydrated, and that was heaven.

I go with Infinit start to finish...that's it. I did run out at mile 23 of the run and went to coke.

Infinit from start to finish of the bike.  I switch to GU's and Gatorade for the run.  I don't like to carry liquids with me when I run.  If it is insanely hot out I will supplement on the run with Endurolytes.

GU gels
Clif Shot Bloks (don't like the new packaging, though, so have been switching to Honey Stinger chews)
G2 for shorter races and rides, Gatorade Tiger (more electrolytes) for longer or higher temperature sessions
Clif Bars for after-training or -race; around the midpoint of HIM or IM ride, I like the Luna Bar Toasted Nut and Cranberry flavor as a change-of-pace from gels and blocks (only Luna flavor with no frosting to melt).
And, of course, water.

In general, I'm pretty adaptable to what's on the course.  Only product I've found that I just can't stand (and my wife has the same reaction, as it happens) is Heed.  Yuck.

two products I'm curious about, just read that michael lovato uses EFS energy shot (http://www.competitivecyclist.com/road-bikes/product-accessories/2009-first-endurance-efs-liquid-shot-six-pack-5549.45.1.html) the description sounds interesting. I would love to never eat a gel again. also curious about carbo pro if anyone has tried that.

I used this at IMKY this year for two simple reasons - convenient to purchase in the flask, and I liked the taste (vanilla).  Other than that, I didn't notice much difference vs the other gels I tried.

Me too. My Infinit is about 268 cals a bottle, and I have one bottle per hour.

I sometimes start to feel hungry, though... (this has been reduced by the addition of some more protein in my Infinit mix) but not solved entirely... so I will throw down a Powerbar or two, depending on the length of the ride.

I sometimes have a COLD ORANGE Gatorade as a special treat... and factor in those calories as well.

On the run... about 100 calories an hour... sometimes Sport Beans + water... sometimes Nuun + Sport Beans. Nom!

Clif shot bloks are awesome.

I love infinit too.

I like the taste of Gu gels, Hammer gels, and some clif gels.

For recovery I like infinit's recovery blend.

Hammer whey protein is the best darn thing out there for protein powder.  Second-to-none!

For bike training I used to like PB crackers or Lemon cookies.  Not so much for racing, but great for training.

I pretty much live on Carbo Pro. I use it for nutrition for the swim as well as the bike and run. Because it is colorless and tasteless, you can mix it in any quantity you want. I usually make bottles of 600 cal/ each and take a bottle every 1.5 hours. If I want to mix it up a bit, I add 1 or 2 scoops of gatorade/accelerade/ gu or whatever flavored sports drink powder I have laying around. But, lately I have been going just straight CarboPro. I t has worked just fine on my 10+ hour training days.

HA!  That is EXACTLY what I do.  Orange Gatorade is also my favorite if we make a pit stop during a training ride.  I'll have to follow your advice for the run, seeing how similar your tastes are for the bike

I can pretty much eat/drink anything on the bike. I've been known to down some Little Debbie snacks at a circle K stop

For serious training/racing I use Gatorade, water, GU,  and Powerbars. I like jelly beans on the run

love all the suggestions and experiences, keep them coming
I can down all kinds of crap in training but when I get to the intensity of racing, its a whole different story
My favorite treat is cold strawberry gatorade and there's only one gas station around here that has it. It is so freakin good.  I take whatever is left and put it in the freezer when I get home until its like a slushie. I love it. I'm thinking about getting a popsicle mold next year and making gatorade popsicles for post workout!  Definitely dreamed that one up on a hot run!

Carb Pro might be the easiest nutrition product out there.  I add it to any Gatorade, HEED, Gu2O, water, etc.  Buy a cannister and give it a whirl.

If I'm going on a long ride.  I mix about 5 scoops of carbo-pro in a bottle with 1 scoop of powdered gatorade and it's the perfect flavor for me.  This is an ~ 3 hour bottle for me.  When i drink it, i take a swig of my carbo-pro mixture & then a couple swigs of water.   Also, you can carry a zip lock bag of some carbo-pro & gatorade powder all ready to go for your second loop.  It has no sodium, so i take saltstick salt pills as a supplement.

PennState is the one who turned me onto Carbo-Pro.
