Subject: Good Shop for a Bike Fit in NYC?

Long story short, bought a tri bike last year, was fit when I bought it. Year later, knee/ITB issues caused mainly by running but are irritated by riding, especially my hips. My PT suggested an updated fit. Suggestions? An earlier post mentioned Signature Cycles? Someone also mentioned Bay Ridge Bikes?

I'd like to steer clear of SBR or RA, as I've had some issues with the condescending nature of the sales staff.

... and you're going to go to Signature Cycles? I've had the same experience at all 3 places, R&A probably being the worst. High-end bike shops have the snooty factor.

Paul Levine (Signature Cycles/Serotta) is one of the best in the business, but mucho $$ for a fitting. Granted, you know it will be done right. What's it worth to you? And what type of bike do you have?

Really, I was not familiar with Signature and didn't know what to expect. He got back to me quickly over email. I was going to give a call over there tomorrow and get the particulars. You think this is going to cost like $200+? I have a 2006 Felt S22.

Ugh, so frustrating. I just want to be able to ride again without pain, but i guess I saved hundreds not racing a full schedule this year

Hey have either of you thought of Toga? They have some really great fitters in their West side store as well as their Nyack shop.

I was actually fitted already, but I will check them out next time. I used to live near Toga on the West side but I wasn't into tri's at the time. I heard good things about the Rockland store though.

Thanks for the heads-up.

I emailed Toga, sounds like they're very professional, etc. But, $300/$150 if u bought the bike there is 'spensive to me. Maybe this is just the going rate?

I believe if you buy the bike from them, the 3D or Retul fit is less. A basic fit on one of their bikes is always free.

I don't have the guy's info on me but my fitter was the fitter at cadence before they shut down.  He's very good.  he will come to your place, you may need to have your own trainer to put your bike on.  let me know if you want me to find his info..

I had a good fit at Sid's Bikes on 33rd Street (the one on the East Side). They're definitely more road-bike focused than tri-bike, though.

Signature is amazing and very thorough. My fitting at sids was crap, very very basic. Basically get what you pay for. Signature isnt cheap but you will be there for 3 hours and they go over EVERYTHING. Oh and Grant did my fit, and he was great, had a really fun interesting time, no attitude at all. R&A is a different story.

I guess I am just reluctant to spend a ton on a bike fit, when I'm not buying a new bike (and certain variables are already set, like frame size).

If you can get up to Westchester, for $175 there is:

Ed Cangialosi
http://www.repartocorse.com/

he does the fitting @ Danny's Cycles in Scarsdale:
http://dannyscycles.com/

his fee includes a year's worth of service. I had a great experience with him and the fit on my TT bike is wonderful.
