Overall Rank = 200/831
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 7/74
Pre-race routine:

Arrived about 5:50, got VIP parking since we had to unload work stuff from my car. Set up, helped CS set up, calmed her nerves 50 times, reminded her that I'm still ervous before a sprint and sat around a chatted before heading to start.
Event warmup:

Nada.
Swim
  • 07m 38s
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good swim, I started next to a girl who I know is a bit better swimmer and try to stay with her as long as possible. She took off, but I stuck with another girl the entire swim and she navigated the course well. Really felt like I was pushing it, and felt the lack of swimming since IM- so glad it was short. I also knew all my co-workers were standing at the swim exit...so that helped me keep a fast pace!
What would you do differently?:

Not too much.
Transition 1
  • 03m 18s
Comments:

I always hate this T1. Long, steep uphill run to t-area. Ran till it got steep and walked as fast as those running. Felt a little off balance putting my shoes on, but didn't really delay anything.
What would you do differently?:

I mean, I could always run up that hill...but who wants to be in Z5 in T1?
Bike
  • 41m 1s
  • 13 miles
  • 19.02 mile/hr
Comments:

Pretty good bike consitering I've ridden once since IM. I like this course, but think I'd have done better if I'd ridden more recently. Just tried to push it, but keep my HR in check. Passed Emily at mile 4 and just tired to hold her off the rest of the way. I could hear her voice behind me, so I know she was there but never got passed by her. I needed to pad my time to hold her off on the run.
What would you do differently?:

I could have taken better advantange of the fast parts of the bike course...but I'm happy with my pace.
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

Not bad...could have been a :10-:15 faster...
Run
  • 26m 34s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

Just wanted to keep it together and not blow up. Emily caught me around .5, ran with her until about mile 1 and she took off. I know she's a better runner and I would have been hurting to keep up. Just tried to keep a quick but steady pace. Felt really good once my feet lost the numbness from the bike. Hit the turnaround and actually ran up all the hills- woohoo for that! When I hit the sidewalk that leads into the finish, my legs were feeling pretty shaky...glad I only had 100 yds or so. I think that's how a 5k run is supposed to feel! I think this is a PR run for a sprint tri too!
What would you do differently?:

I could have tried to hang with Emily, but I was scared of going out too fast. I'll get a bigger lead on the bike so she won't catch me so early on the run next time!
Post race
Warm down:

Went back out to cheer on CS who was doing her first tri! Hung around forever chatting with co-workers

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Very little training since IM, but I never really planned to continue training for this race.

Event comments:

Great GA Multisports race as always. Lake Lanier Islands has dome HUGE renovations too and the roads are in super condition. The traffic is hit or miss on if you get stuck behind a car, but oh well...
