Total Time = 1h 19m 55s
Overall Rank = 24/155
Age Group = M 50-54
Age Group Rank = 2/8
Pre-race routine:

Woke to bagels and coffee, dressed and drove 35 minutes to race site. Got marked then parked. Visited until start.
Event warmup:

Running to porta potty and back.
Swim
  • 13m 5s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 23s / 100 yards
Comments:

Usual sucky swim.
What would you do differently?:

Swim better.

**sigh**

Actual swim was 12:32, rest was run to transition.
Transition 1
  • 00m 32s
Comments:

Only three people faster than me and they were among the top four O/A finishers.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 39m 26s
  • 15.18 miles
  • 23.10 mile/hr
Comments:

Wind was out of the southeast, blowing in as you went out.

Went at this pretty hard, managed to average 22.2 on the way out against the wind, and was well over 24 on the way back in, last three or four miles I was around 26-27 the whole time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, lot of fun coming back with the wind.
Transition 2
  • 00m 43s
Comments:

Not as fast as I would have liked, though everything went OK.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure.
Run
  • 26m 9s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

This is where I lost it, just not aure why. Effort was hard from the start, just the speed wasn't there. Had someone who looked like he was in my age group pass me about a mile in, but I just couldn't go any faster. Fought a side stitch most of the way, which was my limiter. If I could have managed another 20 seconds per mile, would have won my age group. Just didn't have it.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure. Times have been getting slower these last three races. Disappointing.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked a while, by that time transition was open so I gathered my stuff and put it in the car. As soon as I closed the door, the rains started.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Still not sure.

Event comments:

Another good first-race effort. Nice venue, well organized, plenty of volunteers, great food after. A few minor suggestions would be to straighten out that run course and to put the water station where you can hit it twice on the run, rather than at the end of one of those dead-end out and backs.
