Total Time = 3h 35m 24s
Overall Rank = 371/489
Age Group = 55-59
Age Group Rank = 9/15
Pre-race routine:

Ate banana and gel blocks. Drank 1 cup coffee. Rode bike 3 miles from rented house. Set up T area, drank heed and 1 hammer gel before swim.
Event warmup:

Short swim. Stubbed small toe on porta potty door. Black and blue today, Ouch!
Swim
  • 35m
  • 1883 meters
  • 01m 52s / 100 meters
Comments:

Focus was on form not fast turnover. Reach, glide, body turn, elbow high, bi-lat breathing. Good consistent pace with minimal traffic problems.
What would you do differently?:

Some navigational drift could be improved. More drafting.
Transition 1
  • 02m 16s
Comments:

Fairly long uphill run, suit off quick thanks to Pam on legs, wiped dirt from feet before putting on shoes. Lots of traffic at mount line and immediate turn prevented me from jumping on.
Bike
  • 1h 38m 45s
  • 29.66 miles
  • 18.02 mile/hr
Comments:

Long course with signif. uphill at mile 22-24. Tried to pace my effort.
What would you do differently?:

Need a fluid res. system in front.
Transition 2
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

Don't know how I was even this fast. Put socks on for run. Dazed !
What would you do differently?:

Get out of shoes on bike !!!
Run
  • 1h 18m
  • 6.35 miles
  • 12m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

Really bonked at mile 1 and resorted to alternating walk/run. Shoulder back muscles really fatiqued and cramping. Legs OK but shoulders and lower back ached. Ran downhills walked uphills. Hot spot on ball of left foot. Mizunos. Ran last mile to finish.
What would you do differently?:

More distance training.
Post race
Warm down:

2 bottles of water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Conditioning and mental toughness. More hydration on bike.

Event comments:

Happy to complete my first Olympic but disappointed in run performance.
