Pre-race routine:

Reverse duathlon, I do both bikes, my buddy Worm on the bike. 9.2 out on bike, tag Worm and he runs 5.6 around the park, then 9.2 back. Since there is no template for this race I will just combine the 2 bikes
Event warmup:

it was cold and windy, first cold day for us so it was a shocker.

Comments:

The race starts out on the bike. We were last wave and one guy went out hard. I was 4th in a paceline, but we weren't working together. A couple guys jumped and I did to after a mile. One guy caught the rabbit but I was stuck in 5th when we hit the bridge (which was the end of draft zone). I had a tough time on the bridge but rode the downhill hard. Passed Marcy going down the bridge, she was at the bottom changing a flat. I pushed hard and by 3rd mile was catching people in the earlier waves. Pushed hard all the way, wind was tough, mostly cross but it was so windy it was moving me. Pushed hard to keep it over 20mph. Turned into park and made a quick transition.

Now I had to wait in the park for Dave to return. I was warm at first but eventually it got chilly. Watched Caren come in and then Marcy about 5 minutes later.

Dave came in about 4 minutes faster than projected. The other teams had faster runners but he kept us close enough. The way back was weird. Same cross wind with a little tail at time. I hit the beach going 24mph but whenever there was a condo on the beach, I struggled to keep it at 18 and even went as low as 16. It was very hard. Had a tough go of the bridge but got the job done.

What would you do differently?:

train more, haven't been riding much.

Warm down:

Event comments:

Super job to all of you!  I was feeling a little guilty about not coming, but when I read your description about the ride I think I made the right decision.  There were condo winds last year, and it wasn't near the conditions you had this year.  Congrats on your first place finish!!!
