Hello,

First post here - reading these forums has been wonderful.

After some 1/2 marathons and a marathon last year (Twin Cities in Mn) I've decided to do some tri's this coming year.

My last tri was an IM in 1985. It started in Faribault, MN. It was in July, I think July 25th, but I'm not sure.

I was 17 when I did it (lied about my age to register). Reading the forums now about tri's and equipment and training and nutrition is amazing.

Then clipless pedals, tri bikes, gu packets, power meters, wetsuits and all this other stuff simply didn't exist. I remember one food/water stop on the bike (at mile 60) and one on the run (at 13.1). Both had water, gatorade and PB&J sandwiches.

It was a 95 deg F day with 90% humidity and lots of wind. Amazing that any of us finished.

Anyway, really looking forward to learning more from folks here.

My question - was anyone else here in Faribault in 1985? I know it is a long shot, but maybe......

In 1985 I was 10 living in PHX. Anyways, I live in Mankato, and do lots of tri's in the area. We also have a Tri club that you can join and stay updated if you want. www.mankatomultisport.com. make sure you do north mankato triathlon next year.

Welcome back! It is amazing how much technology progresses, but you are in a good place to learn more about it. Read up and determine where the money is best spent for your situation. There are some good tris in the twin cities area.

I have a good friend who grew up there. She graduated HS in 84-85.

If you send me a PM, I can forward it to her. Her family still lives there.

I would love to see some pics of early Tris. Old Skool bikes and running shoes. I can remember when chromoly was first getting popular. Tells my age also.
