zagagirl - 2005-06-07 2:36 PM Bear, the spreadsheet gives me credit for 9 miles but I am actually 0 as of today.

Sorry, picked up your run total. Told you, I thought you were setting a run goal.

Let me know if you find any errors.

Bear, looks perfect with one exception - I'm not on the list. 155 miles, $20. THANKS!

  1. Bear, being the reasonable Goddesses that we are, your goal is approved.
  2. Put me in for 155 miles, $20 pledge (my mileage for May was 126, do that math). I haven't logged any miles MTD so I need to get in the saddle!

Thanks for organizing this, Bear.

:-)

There are 24 guys and our total milage is 6,538.84 and there are 35 girls and their total milage is 7,173.40? What is your read on this? 11 more people and a difference of only 634.56?

Ladies,

I am in for what it is worth.  I have IMCDA at the end of the month so there is a sure 112. : )  I have 64 already so lets see... since I am tapering lets go with 300 miles and $20.  I may have to borrow a bike as I am shipping mine on the 17th.. Hmm.  Lets ride!

Oh, here we go again with the sideways remarks about pledges.

For your edification, Team Gear Goddesses statistics:

MEDIAN200
MEAN/AVG203.5667
MODE150
SKEW0.720135
STANDARD DEV99.67215

Team Testybones:

MEDIAN235
MEAN/AVG272.4517
MODE150
SKEW0.41314
STANDARD DEV139.8258

What is skewing these numbers is the fact that SIX Team Testy members have pledged over 400 miles to our TWO Goddesses who pledged over 400. As you can see, the most frequently occurring value (pledge) for BOTH teams is 150 miles. I admire the fortitude of all BTers who can pedal 400+ miles in a month, but let's not cast aspersions on the Beginning cyclists who cannot (that's why Ron put the B in BT.com).

This is about setting goals and reaching for them. It's not about who can pedal further. That would be an altogether different kind of challenge. Goals level the playing field for newbie and hardcore cyclists, alike.

Go get'em girl!   I agree, not everyone can run a 6 min/mile pace and not everyone is training for an Iron distance this year.  Goals keep you motivated and on target and the challenge shouldn't be used to distract anyone from their individual goal of achieving their best.  'nuff said'.

strike a sour note. I was just asking the question Renee and your understanding of statistics helped me understand.

I think we are all beginners for a while. I do think we need to remember not to discredit those who do make the time to get out on the road just as much as those who do not get out on the road. Either way, we have all made choices in our lives and I am happy with mine just the same as you are with yours.

Thanks for the information!

Mike, there was alot of uncalled for muttering about 'sandbagging' during the Swim Challenge. Unsportsmanlike and a red herring argument (diversion from their lack of goal attainment).

Thought I'd nip it in the bud before this one gained any traction. Nothing personal, Sweetpea.

I was not in the swim challenge. I was unaware of the baggage stemming from that or I would have not asked the question.

I did mention when the thread came up about the rules of this challenge that there should be some type of minimum, which turned into the percentage increase from last month. My intention, again was not to suggest anything -- I just asked the question to find out what other people thought.

From the list, one can tell there is a real spread in the range of the goals. I have no problem with anyone setting their goal at 1 mile or 1,000 miles. To each their own. You will notice from my log that I am not a 6 minute miler either -- I am a MOP guy who loves to participate and loves to train.

Asking questions is good. Sometimes I overanswer them a bit too powerfully. It's the INTJ in me.

I'm in for 150 miles and $10 if I can get an exemption.
I'm tapering for an A race this month followed by a recovery week so the mileage has to be down from last month.

If it's not too late and I am eligible, I'd love to play with you guys.  I just lost my job so I have lots of time to train!!!  I only logged 20 miles last month but actually rode about 40 (started loggin late in the month).  I would like to pledge $20 and 60 miles.  I have my first race this weekend but I should still be able to do it.

How could I possibly say 'no' to someone with such a great avatar?

Exemption granted.

Sorry about the job thing, Dave.  Sounds like you have a good attitude about it (still willing to donate to charity when you lose the challenge, etc. - so I bet everything will turn out cool.  Best of luck to you.
