Wanted to start the offical thread under Races for the St Anthony Triathlon in April.  I see on this site that several people are signed up to do it.  Will there be 4000 triathletes doing this race?  If that is true.  Wow!

Last year there were 3536 finishers (including pros) and 148 relay teams. That's 3980 if you assume 3 people per relay team. Add in the DNFs and that puts you over 4000.

It will probably sell out, but registration is still open after almost two weeks...(as opposed to closing an about 3 hours in 2007).

Race day is only 19 weeks from tomorrow. Only three weeks left to goof off before training starts in earnest

I am really pumped about the race.  I haven't done a swim in the Gulf since I did the Elephant Man Triathlon in Destion, Florida.  It was one of the first Triathons I did.  I went back seveal years later and did it again.  It was very nice swimming in the gulf.

Sorry to break the bad news but the swim is in the bay not the gulf. Do not expect the good visibility you had on your last gulf swim.

Thanks for the update.  Still enjoyed the Gulf but the Bay will do.

I'm in.  Lots of people got pissed off about the swim being canceled last year.  Its a world class race close to home.  If I had to travel far I probab;y would skip it but its tons of fun.

I'm in too!

Soooo excited.  I know this is a huge and long-standing event, and season opener for many.
I've been on the sidelines trying to make up my mind but then I saw time was running out.

See you all there.  I also hope they don't cancel the swim this year.

If anyone else in Riverview/Lithia area doing this, let's hook up.  I got SOCKS on my to-meet list.

I'm in.  This will be my first Olympic distance and the size is a bit intimidating, but it sounds like fun.  We'll hopefully be staying in the Anna Maria area making a full weekend of it.

The Hampton Inn downtown is great but runs about $200 a night.  Vinoy is even more.  There are a couple of small B&B downtown as well.  Best bet it to head west and find a place and drive in that morning.

FINALLY!

ANy other W Hillsboro tri'ers racing this one?  What kind of training do you do and where?

Boom, what's the MadDogs training plan?  Its a long drive but I could meet them for a few sessions (just avoid solo swimming in the pier) - how do you spell SHARKS?

Is the race full yet? I'm surprised to see that you can still register from the official website.

Looks like only charity spots available. The others require a password to register.

ISO of young professional gorgeous women in the st pete area to put up a starving triathlete for the weekend of this great race.  I am fun energetic humorous and extremely single guy that will be celebrating my finish immediately with copius amounts of frothy beverages.

Starting this year at St. Anthony's Tri. Getting in Friday night and leaving Monday. I was wondering about a good place to stay. Will be alone so logistics is a somewhat of a concern. Also, what are some good places to eat and possible have a beer or 2. Thanks in advance.

Hal, this is taking place in Downtown St. Pete, no problem finding a decent eatery, as far as hotels, you might find yourself a little tight by now.  google hotels in the area, I am sure all the nice rooms are probably gone by now.  There are several office parks requiring a 15-20 min drive but I am sure they'll have a few rooms.  Don't stay immediately "SOUTH" of the DT area.

G'luck

While it looks like it's a long way away this is a nice hotel:

http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/tpapg-courtyard-st-petersburg-clearwater/

2 years ago we stayed there and there were quite a few St A's participants there (including pro Julie Dibens).  It's quite an easy drive down I-275 to downtown.  I'd say that early in the morning only 20 mins MAX.

I was told by a girl in my running group that the majority of people wear wetsuits for this event - is this true??  I thought by the end of April the water temps wouldnt require a wet suit. If so, I guess I need to find a used one

water temps do not require it but in general most people are faster in a wetsuit.  Its been chilly here this spring so I bet the water will be colder than other years
