Thank you'all for your great comments!! They do help a lot.
I just think that is a "scary" race (for me) for different reasons:

-I just started doing this last year
-I've done 5 sprints, all kind of small
-Just one Olympic
-Never done open water or swam with a wetsuit before
-Never done beach start with 150+ athletes
-Very competitive race
-etc

Hey! but I guess that's part of the fun!!!! I love the jitters, and you are so right! It makes me feel so alive!!!!
And I guess the adrenaline compensate for the feet and elbows hitting you on the start
Seriously, I am super exited and I'm sure it will become an instant favorite.  And the fact that it will be a great family weekend, makes it even better.
I'm in swim wave 15 at 7:52 Bib 1657.
Thanks again and good luck to everybody!!!
My motto will aslo be - cross the finish line IN ONE PIECE!"

Bib #820. I moved out of the Clydesdale division just to get the earlier start and go off with my brother (#819). We've never started a race together, so I'm looking forward to having him there during those pre-race moments.

Of course, he's a much faster athlete than I am, so unless I grab his ankles during the swim I won't see him again till the finish! :)

well, finished my 2nd "warm-up" tri before next week's St. A - the FAU Wellness Tri in Boca.  The hardest part was the seemingly short 400m swim.  The water was so rough and choppy it made it quite miserable.  Swallowed so much salt water, a bunch of it came back up on the run.  Frown
I'm so hoping for calm waters next week, or it could be a long day.

its like i told my 8&under girls softball team, its not necessarily how you finish, so long as you had fun in the process!

my 47th out of 56 in AG today suggests i won't be on the podium next week, so i'm in it for the fun! Tongue out

hope your bike and back are doing better come sunday!

My brother did this race today too. Said the surf beat the crap out of him. Sounds like it was quite a swim. I'm with you in hoping for calm waters and calm winds next week.

FAU tends to have rough waters..and St. Anthony's can be the same!  Gotta take what the day gives you, let's just hope it's calm, flat and fast waters

i don't think any of us is shooting for podium, otherwise we'd be posting on EliteTriathlete.com (LOL ), yet again, don't let that detract any fastcats out there....

To all participants, best of luck.  Let's all do a little "Pray for calm waters" dance, so that we DO get to swim this year!Pray for Surf   I'll be showing up at expo on SAT.  My drive is about 1 hr each way so I will be getting outta there early.  Any groups forming?  Any meeting place?  I havent done this race before so I am not sure where ya'll have met in the past.  (Yeah, I said ya'll! LOL

a swim like FAU sure brought out my weaknesses in the swim.  glad to have done it prior to SA just in case the conditions are the same, even though a week isn't really any time to fix them, I know what to expect.

any idea what the water temps have been in the bay lately?  last email update was a week ago, but it was looking favorable for a wetsuit swim.

Looks like it's been around 77 the last couple days:  http://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/myports/data.shtml?plot=8726520_wt_72.png

Thanks for the link. WT went down 1 degree today to 76.2.  Is 78 the max??? We are right on the edge.......

I wouldn't worry about it. That thermometer notoriously reads a few degrees warm. Last year it was reading 80° on race day, but the race temp was under 78.  I'd guess the 'official' race temperature this year will be about 75°.

How about setting a time for the unofficial BT practice swim? Maybe 3:00 at Spa Beach?

I would not be worried abut wetsuit legal.  If its been wetsuit legal in years past with a month of temps in the 90s it should not be an issue this year since the temsp have been significantly cooler

I would be very shocked if it was NOT wetsuit legal...think they go out to the middle of the ocean to measure   There are a LOT of people from Team in Training that do this race..and just a LOT of people..they want us all in wetsuits!  lol.

as far as podium finish....something to shoot for
