Swim
Comments: Fair swim, considering I've been in the water exactly 3 times since Gulf Coast. Died a bit at the end. And...rounding the second-to-last buoy, my right arm snagged a rope on the buoy. I took abother stroke thinking it would free up, but this only tangled it more. Had to stop and unwrap rope from my arrm. Would have been first in my wave otherwise. Grrr..... What would you do differently?: Watch out for ropes, get in the pool once in a while. Transition 1
Comments: About as good as it gets. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Good bike. Need to force myself to go harder. What would you do differently?: Don't hold back. Transition 2
Comments: As good as it gets. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Good run. Felt really strong off the bike (should have gone harder on the bike). First mile was up hill, on trails. Last mile was something like 6:48. What would you do differently?: Not much. Post race
Warm down: Ran a little bit and stretched. What limited your ability to perform faster: Haven't done much training since Gulf Coast, century the week before left me just a little tired. Last updated: 2005-06-06 12:00 AM

Drove to the Park with Sandee to pick up packet and scout the course on Friday afternoon. Swam the swim course and rode the bike course (hope the pack of Georgia-clay red Jack Russel Terriers that chased us will be gone on race day).
Woke up Saturday morning at 5am, at half a PB sandwich and a Powerbar, drank a 20oz diet Coke and a bottle of PB Endurance drink. In the car at 5:30. Got to the race site at 6:15am only to find they were charging 3 bucks to get in the park (they weren't charging the day before). Since I brought exactly $1 in cash and the guard wasn't budging on a discount, I was getting ready to park outside and lug my stuff on my bike the mile to the race start. But luckily Janelle drove up just as I was driving out of the park. Amazingly, we had exactly the 6 dollars between us so we could both drive in to the park.
At the race site, I set up transition, ran the first and last mile of the run course, rode about 10 minutes, donned the wetsuit (they announced the water temp to be 79 degrees, then a few minutes later announced 74 degrees), went down to the lake and swam about 400 meters or so.
