The VDO is only like $200 bucks, it seems like a good deal.  The iBike is more expensive.  Has anyone used either of these devices, or do you have recommendations for other power meter that won't break the bank?  Thanks

Don't know anything about the VDO gauge or how it works. The ibike one works by measuring many different things and then backing out the power. My understanding is it can be finicky with mounting w/aerobars, etc.

I think the best, cheapest power option is a wired powertap on a decent rim (like a mavic). If you can find one second hand, even better.

If you are looking to train with power, I would not go with either route.  The iBike has had several problems and while many of them have been addressed, I'm still not convinced enough to spend the money on one.  As for the VDO, it is not a powermeter so I wouldn't even consider one of those.

If you want to get into power then wired PowerTaps are hard to beat as many retailers are selling them for a good price and many users are upgrading and offloading their wired stuff.  If you watch the classifieds here and at ST, you can often find a good deal.

You could also consider the Polar CS600; used you can often find these used for a decent price and will give you good data to guide your training and racing.
